Agreed. It was reported Utah may overpay on short term contracts for older players while they wait for a couple of the younger players to come along. A Laine trade was noted as a possibility. This is better than a Laine move - but it all aLaines (aligns - Ha!).

There were times when Eichel was tossed from the faceoff dot so Marchessault took the faceoff. He also played center in junior. So he seems like a winger now, but if a team needed a center he would be one of the top 5 choices this off-season.

Is there any update on the Utah team name? Or is it still going to be the Outlaws as per the link below?

Is it safe to introduce the term position dysphoria? I’m sure Guentzel took a lot of draws when Crosby got booted from the circle. Guentzel played center at Sioux City and the U of Nebraska. Is Cutter Gauthier a center or a wing?

Again, just because Guentzel has been slotted in as a winger for the last 9 years it doesn't mean he couldn't be a 1C somewhere else. He wasn't going to play ahead of Crosby and Malkin on the depth chart. So if someone like Boston needs a center, Guentzel could be a great fit. But if Colorado needs a winger, Guentzel fits that too.

More than 520,000 fans voted online from a selection of 20 names, and the top six -- which accounted for 60 percent of the total vote -- were announced Thursday.

Those were: Utah Blizzard, Utah Hockey Club (Utah HC), Utah Mammoth, Utah Outlaws, Utah Venom and Utah Yeti."

It's curious to me why Utah is going for a year as Utah HC. I know we've heard it's so they can take time to come up with a name and logo that everyone really likes but we've had some pretty quick relocations in the NHL (including when Winnipeg moved to Phoenix) and teams have seemed to figure out how to get it done before the next season. When COMSAT purchased the Avs it was announced on May 25th and a name and logo that has lasted nearly 30 years was ready to go for the first game on October 6. The Utah announcement was on April 18. We don't know when their first game will be but the first Coyote game last year was on October 13.

Not only that, Colorado had time to float a new name in the Denver Post that everyone hated - (the fabled Rocky Mountain Extreme) - and then have a fan vote for the real one.









I guess we were able to get more done in one summer 30 years ago compared to now. Incidentally the fan vote went for Cougars but Charlie Lyons overruled it because he liked Avalanche better.
