I don’t think the Flames are in any hurry to move him. They’ll wait and see what is offered. Most likely it will be picks or prospects coming back, as the Flames are in rebuild mode.

Unless ownership refused to do more than a year, Conroy really pooched it on this one. There are many things to like about Kylington as a hockey player and the risk is extremely minor for a team in the Flames' position. Now was the time to benefit from sticking with him.

Kylington had some mental health issues, wouldn’t call him a headcase. He would have played lots here while they figure out where everyone fits. I’m good with him trying a new team. Opens up spots for Solovyov and Poirier.
Gio can’t play for the Leafs on a regular basis, why would anyone think he can play for Calgary? Guy literally destroyed the dressing room, making teamates pick sides. For all the good he did in the community, I’ll always remember him for dividing the room. Bennett and Tkachuk both have a cup, thanks to the incompetent leadership.

Did Gio cause that devide, or did Tkachuk? From everything I heard online, Tkachuk was upset he didn't get the letter and let it be known. Gio was handed it by Sutter as Sutter preferred his vets over young guys. Then the game where someone chipped a puck at Tkachuk at the whistle and the rest of the team didn't rush to his defense he lost his respect for the rest of his teammates. May have been opinion pieces that projected that, but it's what I saw most commonly around the interwebs. I haven't seen anything that suggests Gio ripped the room apart. If anything the opposite and that he and Backs made a connected room. But 3 years later maybe there is more to the story and the young guys who chose to move on (Johnny, Tkeith2, Monny) have something else to say now days. But it would be obvious that Johnny, Monny, Tkachuk, Backlund, and others of that sort would be on his reliable list by now and the new blood would be scrapping for time and looking to sign elsewhere.

Gio was captain long before Sutter got there. Part of his job should be to keep the dressing room cohesive Instead he came out and told Tkachuk enough of the sideshow antics, virtually drawing a line in the dressing room. After he was claimed by Seattle, Sutter should have named Chucky captain but in Sutter fashion he chose no one.
Don’t get me wrong MG was a great player for the Flames but not the right choice for captain.
