Well, pretty clear with those lines who is making the team. Everyone else practiced in a separate group.

EDIT- also nice to see Puljujarvi looks like he's getting a chance to crack the lineup.

Looks atm like it's exactly as expected, except maybe for those who had McG on the opening-night lineup. We'll definitely see him up, likely for good, this year, but probably not for game 1.

I remember a preseason when a former 1st round pick Finnish player lit it up and everyone was thinking he was going to have a great regular season....

...hopefully Puljujärvi isnt history repeating itself.

Well, in this case, the Finn has a history of being a productive third liner when healthy. So there's some hope it's just that, and at least he's one more possibility.

The other night Accairi stood out as an NHLr playing with kids and Cody Glass just looked like another kid. Just saying. 2 mil is a deal.

Yeah, I guess the difference is that expectations are lower...because Kapanen was a productive 3rd liner but everyone thought he should be top 6 for some reason hahah

I really don't get the strategy of signing 7-8 Fourth line veteran players.

Would much rather they have paid for 1-2 middle six guys, pushing some guys down the lineup and then supplimenting the rest of the bottom six with young legs.

It is kind of crazy that Kapanen failed so hard. But his game lacked any attention to detail.

That's because your strategy is based on winning games, not aquiring draft picks.

You're absolutely right though. We essentially took Guentzel's cap hit and spread it into Hayes, Beau, Glass, Lizotte, and Gryz. Depth looks nicer but we have DOC on the top line.

I think we needed more depth. One of the big issues a lot of us had with the team was the lack of effort (possibly due to having so many minutes on the ice) by the top players. Now we can not only split up the ice a little more, but also have high effort players who could bring some energy. I agree with Tojo we also added picks. We have some better prospects in the system who are coming along.

I think this is going to be a bridge year into the transition. If we squeak into the playoffs due to the star players showing they still have it. I think Dubas is a little more aggressive this offseason to bring in more talent via FA to make a potential stronger push next year. However, if we drop off then as many of us have discussed. Some players get shopped at the TDL and we stock up more with picks and prospects. Not a terrible spot to be in.

Struggle to see a scenario he doesn’t sell off quite a few vets at the deadline. Especially at forward, they’ll have plenty of options in WBS to call kids up to replace any holes.

A 26 year old player with 50 career points will be playing on the top line to start the season. I hope the best for DOC but that is such a failure as a GM to walk into the season with about 11 bottom 6 quality players and maybe 4 top 6 players.

Unless the Pens PP looks like the Oilers this year, Sid's PPG streak is coming to an abrupt halt.

If we are intending to write off the season to get draft picks, I'd have liked to see us get some players who might actually be worth something at the deadline.

If they were going to put Hayes on the top line for the first 3 months and have Sid carry him to get more value for him at the deadline, that might make sense. With the guys you have listed, you are at best looking at a handful of 3-6th round picks.

Hey man Mark Stone, Anders Lee, Cam Atkinson, and others were 6th round picks they have some value.

In all honesty though. I agree. I don't know why Sullivan is so stuck on DOC as the top line winger. I know we tried to sign a LW, but failed. I would rather see Hayes or Beau in that spot. Heck maybe even try Glass, Eller, or Puustinen since it's Preseason. This is the time to see if someone else can gel on the top spot. I don't get how DOC keeps getting that spot.

Beau has been on Sid's line in camp more than DOC. I think Puustinen's time is just about up. Haase quoted Sully about him needing to finish. I don't think he's lighting things up in camp. I'm hoping he get's through waivers because I think he's a decent depth player.

I mean we got two seconds up front for Hayes and Glass. That’s why we got them. Whatever we can trade them for is gravy, and in Glass’ case if he turns out to be good that’s extra gravy

I think the issue is, I'm not sure if any of the guys you listed is a clear upgrade. Maybe. Sid does like playing with speed so that would knock some guys like Hayes out.

EDIT- just saw the scrimmage rosters and though no lines, DOC is playing Saturday with a mostly AHL team. Glass, Hayes, Beau, and McGroarty will all be options Sunday to skate with Crosby and Rust.

As stated below, it's the picks they got up front for Hayes and Glass. Those aren't the moves you make to maximize return.

As far as putting someone with Sid to max their value, that might end up being DOC. He is a UFA after this year. If he can hit 20 goals with his size, speed, age, and he kills penalties, he'd probably get a good return.

Only including DOC because his Dad isn’t removing him from the lineup.

Doesn’t look ready but the stats like him so probably needs some time in AHL to cook and could be ready by mid year or something

The stats like him because he was on the ice with Kevin Hayes against mostly CHL’rs. Let’s not get the wires crossed.
