We have D that hurt us more than help us. I would honestly waive EG and see if he can get him game back in GR.
Petry and Chirot seem to always be on the ice for bad goals. But look at Albert J… simple player and doesn’t do anything that leads to utter collapse. |

It is so bad. There are Dmen available, but there’s a competitive market. What are the D coaches doing? There were two 3 day stretches of practices and it’s hard to see any improvement |

Gus was a swing-n-a-miss. But it’s not just the d-men that’er killing us; there’s no comprehensive scheme. There are a couple of good fore/back checkers in the F group, but there’s nothing comprehensive. Been the same dang issues since 5-ever. “….Focus on defense…” is failing. The PK is a colander. The message is not being received and even when it’s being heard, it’s not being executed.
Listen, aside from the abhorrent D, there are many promising signs with this team (Eddy, Kasper, etc…). The talent’s developing, but their abilities aren’t matched to a viable scheme (whether defensive, PK, whatever….). The question becomes what should be done. A good staff is able to adapt to the talent on-hand, it’s just common sense; people cannot do what they are organically unable to do without proper leadership & training. Leaders must be able to adapt a plan to the resources available. That’s just basic leadership. Effective leaders know their team, know what the mission requires, what capability gaps are, and how to adjust. That’s not happening. Something needs to give. We’re better than this. An epic shift needs to happen.
The question, to me, is: Is this team capable of making the SCPO and being a threat in its current form? We all know that’s a resounding NO. BUT, There are some really good building blocks on this team. They need to be surrounded with complimentary talent….and frankly; Gus, Tarasenko, Husso, et. al., are NOT earning their pay. Gus was a disappointment, but if we’re supposedly focusing on D this year why even sign him? He’s not responsible as a defender at all. Tarasenko isn’t exactly known for defense.
Time to shake this up. It’s disappointing. This is BS. |

It’s crazy, it’s almost as if they’re rebuilding or something. Who are we kidding Yzerman had planned the parade in July because this year is when the competitive window closes. Cup or bust, or maybe they’re rebuilding….naw that’s not it. 😂😂 |

I’ll address it this way so as not to get into any back and forth. There are players who need structure that they don’t currently have (as has been stated) and other players who fall back into bad habits if they aren’t finding success. The issue isn’t that there is still rebuilding, it’s that there seems to be a sizeable move backward on what the club said it was committed to over the summer in free agency and in coaching. Last year was the first year of a positive goal differential in this club as scoring was added, but goals against were still way too high.
Add to that things are fairly stressful across the board (literally) as we’ve seen other very good voices move on and the entire landscape of how we even view a game keeps shifting. There are too many things that are going wrong with the decisions the team has made and clearly there isn’t a system that seems to be universally understood. This is more like the old dime store “mystery bags” where for $1.00 you may get stickers or candy or reach in and find a prank mouse trap waiting for you. In that sense I do put it on the coaching staff for not getting a clear vision on the ice or any type of consistency. Yes it’s a rebuild, but this year feels like a big jump backward so far. |

Coaching is an issue and i've said many times already how much i hate the defensive system being used by this team.
The other big issue which i also hammered on during the summer was the need to improve the defense. They needed 2 defensemen added to their top 4 that were solid. Not only was that not done, Yzerman probably made it worst with the trade of Walman, loss of Ghost and signing Gus to go with Petry, Holl and Chiarot. That is one horrible defensive core.
Then you add the loss of offense on forward and despite how much people disliked Perron for his defense, he was good at getting pucks along the boards and making plays with it. Wings don't have much of that now. Another thing they sorely lack is physical play. This has got to be one of the softest team in the entire league.
With all that, it wasn't hard to see that unless some miracles happened, this team was more than likely going to take a step back this season. While the coaching staff is an issue, so is how this roster is constructed. PP and goalie standing on his head is the only way they win games. There is no identity to this team at all. |

Rebuilding or not, the way the team goes into full turtle mode anytime they get a lead is indefensible and 100 percent a coaching problem. Either Lalonde is telling them to play that way or hasn't been able to correct it.
In nearly 15 minutes of play from the 3-2 score to the 3-5 score, the Red Wings had exactly one shot on goal. Against the Anaheim Effing Ducks. That's what's unacceptable.
I am okay with this team losing games, missing the playoffs, continuing to rebuild. I am not okay with them taking their foot off the gas anytime they are tied or leading past the halfway point of the game. |

Lalonde will be looking for a new job next year. I don't see him going this year unless Stevie snaggs Coach Q or the like. But then Y has an awful amount of convincing to do to get a quality coach too! Stevie will need more than money to get a great coach! Such as 2 top 4 Dmen, a 2C, and a life time supply of chewing gum! |

That Jeannot goal illustrated how bad the dmen are. Petry and Gustafsson individually make terrible plays with managing the puck at the point (Gus) and defending on the rush (Petry). No amount of coaching or forward effort can compensate for that incompetence. They fail at the basics of NHL abilities. |

Whelp... at least the Griffins are really good this year... They won again tonight and lead their division (11-3-1 record). More fun to watch than the Dead Wings who can't keep a lead or kill a penalty.
Pretty deflating watching the Wings these days. LaLonde will probably be gone before the season is half over if this continues. But that would also depend on what potential coaches are available. I'd take Quennville or Gallant any day over the current dumpster fire. Need another Scotty Bowman... I can dream I guess. |

After watching the LA game, I noticed that the DRW's have the pieces and staff but something needs to shake these guys up. I like the coach and I'm sure SY likes him but the coach has to go to shake these guys up. Way too many mistakes/missed assignments etc for what they're getting paid. |

What's happened these past 2 games is sheer embarrassment. There's no consistent defensive schem: D-zone posturing looked like Godzille rampaging through Tokyo - We were running scred, and it's been that way for most of the season.
This is unacceptable.
Those who think "Meh, it's a rebuild..." blah blah blah: A rebuild entails rebuilding processes which those on the team must strive to emplace. If the process is unable to be achieved, it must be adjusted, and the players need to be trained to the new process.....There is no scheme. Emphasis for this season was supposedto be defense, there is no defense. You cannot rebuild if you're unable to adjust the plan and bring your team to a level of competency. This team should be embarrassed. People need to go. We will not improve or rebuild with leadership unable or unwilling to adjust and train the players to the scheme. We knew there would be regression from last year but come on, this is BS.
This has got to stop. A message must be sent, fast. |

There's a bunch if talent on this team (and developing in the "A"). But there are glaring gaps as well (D-men, comprehensive team D plan, etc...) Eddy, Johansson (!), and Mo Sides are rock solid given the current schemes. But we're not scoring,we're not defending, we're not killing penalties, and the staff isn't adjusting. We saw some pretty solid team D last year (not consistently, butit was there), but this current team construct is unable to play whatever the current scheme is. No continuity, no flexibility....this isn't good at all. |

They've been rebuilding for 7 years and what progress have they made. The defence is awful. AWFUL. Yzerman should have been fired a year ago. |
