The only reason we should be taking Hoglander back in a Pettersson trade is as a cap dump for Vancouver. So since they may not have the cap space to fit Petts full contract in, we take Hoglander back to get the deal done.

Completely agree that it should not be considered as an asset of value in the trade. So sure, if it helps us get back a 1st from Vancouver instead of a 2nd, sure, lets take him. But if we take Hoglander and a 3rd instead of a 2nd it is a poor move.

So the rumor is that the Ducks were pushing to have Fowler included in the trade to the Rangers, rather than taking on his full salary and sending the pick, but didnt happen.

Heres a hypothetical...would you trade a 2nd, Graves and probably something else to Anaheim for Fowler? Fowler isn't as good as Pettersson but he is way better than Gryz and Graves. He has a big contract but I'd take it for this year and next over Graves for another 4 years.

Is that dumb?

Someone asked about the Yohe article last thread. I think the most interesting tidbit was Yohe pointing by out that Hoglander being in it of favor with Tochett in Vancouver doesn’t bode well for a fit with the Pens because Sully and Tochett operate on the same wavelength Sully trusts Tochett’s judgment. Feel like that’s a good point. Whether or not Hoglander can be good doesn’t really matter unless Sullivan will play him and I don’t want to waste assets during a rebuild on a guy that’s just gonna be in the doghouse immediately, fair or not

I could be wrong, but I don't think Dubas will be trying very hard to make this team better this season. I think we'll see more of the same.... Established players (Petts) leaving for picks. Taking a cap dump for picks. More reclamation projects.

I don't think he'll pay with futures to offload bad contracts.

You are probably right. I just feel like he has to be looking for a way out of that Graves deal. I think that Dubas still hasnt figured out what he wants to do though, and Fowler could be a good play for him in that regard. Bring him in and he could help the Pens take a step forward, or just as well, if the Pens keep sucking, trade him next season half retained to get back some of those assets we would have traded away for him in the first place.

I don't think the Canuck's are in any immediate hurry to move Hoglander if they do at all. They want to see what the team looks like after the roster is healthy.

I posted this summary of Yohe's article on the old blog without realizing there was this new one:

Jagr:

They want Jagr to be an official part of the organization---in any role he wants, player dev, front office, etc. Whatever he's open to, they want him around the team.

Hoglander:

They do like him, but keep in mind he's fallen out of favor with Tocc. They respect Tocc's opinion and would certainly ask him about Hog before making a move.

Jarry:

They are happy with how Jarry is trending. They were also happy with how hard he worked over the summer, but not his play to start the year. They're hoping he's found his form and they are pleased with him atm.

Pickering:

They are shocked with how fast he's improved. They also love him off the ice. Yohe says his personality is magnetic.

Yes:

Yohe doesn't understand why Yes is out of the lineup this much, but also says given that it's still just 18 months from that major surgery, they never planned on playing him close to 82 games this year. They want him to build back up his body and make sure he can handle the workload first.

McG:

They like how he's trending but think he needs the full season in the A before coming up full time.

Stevens:

Yohe tells a story that the reason EJ traded for Stevens before he ever played an NHL game was that Bobby Orr saw Artie play and called him and told him how impressed he was. Great story!

Thanks Mick and Victoro! I really should just pay for the sub. Really interesting tidbit on Nils. If Dubas still gets him, I would contact a realtor if I was Sully. It might share some forthough on Dubas’ part for a HC change.

I agree with rw on DOC. Of other teams see falling over themselves for him, great. Tanner Jeanot got a 1st round pick, right?

Thanks for this. I'm guessing Yes is Puljujarvi. I think he just lost his top nine spot to Tomasino and he's not a penalty killer so they didn't have a spot for him. Had they lost a PKer instead of Tomasino, I'm sure Nieto would have been back in rather than Puljujarvi.

If/when DOC is traded, I guarantee it will be Nieto who gets a lineup spot rather than some prospect, unless it's Poulin or someone like Ponomarov kills penalties. DOC and Lizotte in the top nine gives them one fourth line spot that isn't a main PKer and that's Hayes.

Is Blackwood better than Ned? I always thought he could be a good fit for the Avs. Sharks got a nice return for Blackwood, definitely would have been happy with that for Ned.

Maybe if Blackwood poops the bed and Jarry stays hot Colorado will try him as their 7th or 8th goalie this season.

Yeah, I refer to him as Yes since his name is pronounced like Yes-ee and I can't be bothered to type out his last name.

Hard to say. He's been good this year and good his first two years. Battled a lot of injuries and wasn't very good in between. I would say he has a better chance of being a starter. Good chance Sharks sold high on him.

I'd be shocked if Ned got that type of return. A lot here probably overrated him because of how bad Jarry has been. He's ok, but we overpaid for him IMO.

Yeah, probably overrate him a bit because he carried us down the stretch to close out last season until he gassed out. So maybe overrated but I dont think he is overpaid at all on a 2 year $2M AAV deal, I think that is pretty solid value.

I was more musing on the value of Blackwood... he had a couple good seasons when he was younger, but has been bad since. Has had himself a decent season so far in SJ though. Just thought that was a big return.

Patiently waiting on DOC moving on. Malkin doesn’t deserve to play with that lifeless hack.

This is a safe play for the Avs. Try Blackwood out and have plenty of time to react before the trade deadline.

If Jarry gets hot, would Dubas move him? Depend on what hot really means. If it means "he's playing well enough to get some trade value" sure. If it means "he can help you win in the playoffs" then no.

I think they are planning to roll with Jarry and instead shop Ned. I think they want Bloom up to rotate with Jarry at this point (or at least that is what I'm sensing).

I think they'd love to trade Jarry, but likely can't because of his deal. Backstopping this team won't exactly help his value. I do believe they'll trade Ned. Perfectly fine backup. Unlike DeSmith, he's capable of winning a playoff series. Wish we had Ned a few years ago. Someone will need a solid backup going into the playoffs.

I don't think anyone is going to want Ned, he's been one of the worst goalies in the NHL all season.

You might be right, but this team is grotesque defensively. The worst I can remember. No tender would have good or even average numbers behind them.
