The most surprising thing to me the past 7 games or so is how good the EK+Grz pair has been. That shouldn't work at all, and yet they've both been playing well. |

Completely agree that Ned escapes a lot of criticism simply because he's not Jarry. He's not good either.
Offense is on a tear they probably can't sustain, but keep it up for another month and it creates some intrigue. |

Agreed. They have turned it around quite a bit. |

On a side note, I was all aboard the trade for Laine train this off-season, but thank God we didn't.
He rips his old team and teammates right before playing against them and then the Habs pull him after one period to protect him. He's gutless, especially after his "mental health" leave last season. |

Yeah, neither of them have been good, Ned arguably worse than Jarry. But our D has not done them any favors.
Shockingly, one or two small moves to shore up the roster and we have a playoff team... But a playoff team who loses in the first round. |

It does make me wonder how we are going to approach the TDL. Does he trade Pettersson and use him and to get under talent? Does he resign him? Does he try to be aggressive and maybe use Pettersson and someone like Bunting and DOC to try and acquire JT Miller or Elias Pettersson. I think bringing in a Miller or Elias Pettersson would definitely set us up for an interesting offseason. Then again Zegras or Rossi might also fit the younger talent Dubas is looking to bring in. I think he really needs to push Malkin back to LW then set it up nicely this offseason. |

I think the odds of us re-signing Petts are like 10%. Similar to Jake, haven't heard a word said about contract talks. I expect he will be traded unless Dubas overplays his hand and can't get an adequate return.
I'm all for Miller, but I'd stay away from EP. Think Vancouver needs to do something there though, obviously an issue and the Canadian media isn't going to let it go.
Friedman or someone suggested an EP for Cozens and Byram trade, that makes a lot of sense. Wonder if we could interject ourselves in there and do something with Petts going to Vancouver with Byram coming our way?
I'd love Rossi, just don't see it happening. We can probably only afford someone totally broken like Dach. |

I would be excited about a Dach trade to see if we could get him back on track. I think Zegras is someone we had spoken about internally. I just don't know if he is someone we are serious about pursuing. I forget where I heard Rossi being linked to us, but I saw it somewhere. I do agree I feel the Pets situation may be like Guentzel last season.

Really if the Pens would scratch DOC and move Lizotte up they would have a playable 3rd line. DOC has ruined that line since joining it, the puck dies on his stick and he spends most of his shifts sliding around on the ice because he’s so incredibly weak of a hockey player. Put Hayes back in on the fourth line. The fourth line may take a hit on their possession shifts they’ve been so good at recently but Hayes will pop in the odd goal here or there. Still the most frustrating part about this team is the coaching staff’s unwillingness to play the best possible roster. Also put Malkin Crosby and Bunting on the same damn PP for (frank) sakes. |

Might be galaxy braining this, but maybe having a stronger team, other teams might feel like they have to offer more for us to trade our assets?
Either way, we shouldn’t let our December decimate our deadline approach. Still need to collect assets, get younger, and trade our UFAs.
No clue what we can get for DOC, but I agree with grinder that he just isn’t there this year. Send him out to someone who has some value in him. 1 for 1 for hoglander?
I am starting to really like bunting… he’s the perfect playoff type player. Combo of him and acciari are great of playoff teams.
Petts absolutely has to be traded. Minimum is a 1st rounder (or equal value).
2 months ago, Gryz would fetch us a 6th rounder. Today it might be closer to a 2nd. He’s putting up decent points and his underlying numbers are improving. |

Who woulda thought that the Pens would be the no. 7 ranked PP and 9th ranked PK at this point in the season? |

Hey, Happy Boxing Day,,,
DOC could be the second-coming of Jim McGeough…
Zegras is beginning to look like Connor Sheary…
JT Miller, if he wasn't an East Palestine/Pittsburgher, we wouldn’t be discussing him. PENS would be his 4th team.
Now, Elias Pettersson in exchange for some mix of Marcus Pettersson, Drew O'Connor, Alex Nedeljkovic and a 3rd round picks might be nice…
… another option is to sign M Pettersson and stick to the plan.
