Whelp... that first period pretty much sunk us. That first goal they gave up by Lyon was painful to see. That soft goal on their first shot set the tone. You simply can't give up 4 goals in the first period to a team like Tampa and think you're going to come out on top. Oh well...

Also... sent a couple of PM's to you. Forgot I even had an inbox. LOL First time I've ever used it.

Just got them! Yeah, usually when Lyon gets equipment on the puck you’re good. That felt bad. I admire the 2nd period effort and love that the coach will attempt to turn things around. Won’t always work, but good to see him working. It’s a long time to think about this one. Players not in the 4 nations will likely flock to a sunny beach for a few days. I knew one player in 2010 who went to Jamaica to just get some vitamin D and it was players everywhere during the all star break.

I feared a game like this against Tampa today. Unfortunately I was right.

Rough first was just too much. Admire the 2nd effort but not good and a lot of time to think about it now.

Lyon was definitely off his game and it was right to pull him. Kid has a good mind-set so I'm sure he'll recover. Was said in the pre-match write-up & comments; cannot give TBL any room.....we did. The painful thing is that we lost a chance to go 1pt up in them.

Gotta heal and analyze over the break....this is the time to re-set, build different game plans, work on different schemes, fix some G issues.

That being said, I'm not a big fan of these extended breaks, especially back-to-back like this & the Olympics. I also worry about injuries, someone's gonna get hurt and it's gonna impact their team. On the other hand, will be kinda cool to watch 4N. Interestingly, the current rugby 6 Nations was 4 Nations (England, Scotland, Ireland, & Wales....France came in then Italy....). The players selected to represent their countries play in a couple of regular series (like the NHL), but the regular teams continue their competition during 6 Nations..... If an international player is injured a player from that country is called up to play 6N.

If this Hockey 4N thing catches on, I worry about the drain on the "A" replacing the 4N-injured player....noted above. We don't have the pool that rugby does to absorb injuries which could knock a surging NHL team out of SCPO contention. I mean, injury risks everywhere and all that....wholly agree. Just makes me nervous if we lose Rayzor and Larkin....or either guy, for an extended period of time - GRG would pay the price, we would pay the price. I dunno, tough call but the 4N will be cool.

Am wondering what moves are coming by the TDL. Do we make a move? I'm interested in Couzins (sp?), but at what price?

The thing I like is how we regroup, just don't like that we have to so often, but that's reflective of some critical gaps on the team. TBL seemed a bit off-kilter in the 2d, like they let up or lost the ability to adjust to how we came out a bit. They're still such a good team. And we're in a beast of a division.....

Kane seems to be heating up, that dude can soooo take control of a game at times - it's incredible to watch, especially at his age. What a player!

Just for the sake of size of reply, I throw it in here. Six Nations rugby is in full swing. Wales and Italy/France and England yesterday. The losing captain from Wales was missing skin on his ear during his post game interview. But, they have a week to heal up (similar to football). The hockey schedule is brutal. We saw the team play in Tampa and fly to Dallas for back to backs. Not only do you not have time to heal up, you’re in the air and changing time zones. AHL guys have 2 in 3, 3 in 4 sometimes etc. the mid season tournament, adding to the schedule of top players, will likely be a partial write up next week. Players wants to be at the Olympics and World Cup. They seem to want to be at this. Still, if a team in the thick of it loses a player for 2-3 weeks…not great

I played in the preliminary rounds of Military Nationals back in '97. Had my ear partially ripped off - had a PA stitch me up, taped my head & ears, finished the match. Now, not saying that for accolades but to get to a point: Mental state and physical fitness were big back then for sure, but NOTHING like now. We have Holistic Health & Fitness (H2F) in the Army now - big push for just what the name says, focused on proper nutrition before, during, and after. Recovery is even more important for athletes now - no more chugging 6 raw eggs before working out then slamming 6 beers and a steak!

The deliberative recovery process is mind-blowing. Pro athletes have more energy & focus put on recovery than just about anything because Recovery augments and sets the stage for preparation. It's truly amazing to get into this whole concept. Our guys do an amazing job, especially with such extensive travel, etc... Blows my mind how well they adjust, recover, and perform. So the whole H2F concept is a major, MAJOR focus, but when we talk injury, there's a whole other layer of complexity because we're drilling deep into both the injured site AND the mind. The New Zealand All Blacks have 2 mental fitness coaches - 1 for mental, 1 for Maori Spiritual. The mind is such a complex thing and when properly trained and employed can do untold good things.

Every game I watch (NHL...) I am in awe of how quickly the guys regenerate. The addition of 4N really isn't a major physical strain unless there's an injury. The additional games for Larks & Rayzor will only help solidify them as star players. I am excited for it, but those not participating will need to get back in game shape...

Wow. Ok, thank you for that. A lot of info to digest. I don’t know how players recover in sports like hockey and rugby especially. Rugby almost never stops! A guy could be getting first aid and doesn’t leave until a clock stop. Has been eye opening. It started when all the “Uruk-hai” extras in LOTR were rugby players. Didn’t need much in prosthetics for mass. Most exhausting 40 minute half I’ve ever seen. Unreal.

First I hate afternoon games players seem to play differently and it ruins the weekend. Second NHL needs to totally get rid of 4N cup and all star games as every survey will show the fans overwhelmingly DO NOT WANT THIS CRAP. All this is is more holidays for millionaire hockey players who are lucky to play a game for money. This tournament would be so much better in September but again millionaire hockey players.
