Seriously? Just think what Marner is going to get on the open market. Desperate teams will offer him a max contract so that’s going to be the ask. Add that on top McDavid and Leon. How are you possibly going to fill out the rest of the roster.

It would make it quite the destination for vets on 1 year deals looking to sign for a cup run. They could probably get several decent ones with gas left in the tank to play on minimum deals

Interesting thought. I don’t think he can replace McDavid though. What do you think McDavid signs for? Open market, rising cap 17-18/?
McDavid 17
Draisaitl 14
Marner 12
Nurse 9
52 mil on 4 players

That would be pretty Oilerish

Marner isn't coming here to tie up all that Cap regardless. He's a PO no-show why would they want Marner in EDM?

The cap is significantly rising next year. All teams basically could afford marner

I was disappointed when we lost Hyman to Edmonton, but if we lose Marner to Edmonton as well I'll be pissed. Marner is an incredible player and I'm (frank)ing pissed that the Leafs management haven't done more to keep him. I'd rather have him in the blue and white over Tavares any day of the week.

It's always interesting when people say McDavid won't resign, because like, where is he going to go? There isn't a better team that would have the room to add him, and I don't know why he would want to go to a worse team.

I can think of tons of places he’d go. Any team would clear the space to make it work.
He gave this shit organization 10 years and they’ve failed miserably.

Doesn’t excuse how dumb it would still be when the Oilers already have so much cap tied up in two players.

Yeah, it’s not hard to find ways to dump cap space when the player you’re trying to add is better than everything you already have. You make it work.

There are approx. 25-27 cities that players would rather play in and only a handful that they might choose Edmonton over. I have loved the Oilers for decades but players just don't want to play there. I've been told straight from several players that they try to hang on to rookies as long as possible, try to sign single guys with no family pressure, older guys with injuries that get a contract without a physical, or guys trying to find their game again. As grateful as I am that he's still in Edm, to say that there is nowhere else for McDavid to play is just silly.

Marner and his wife, born and bred in Markham (TO) with a newborn, family support systems close..all in Toronto…are going to choose Edmonton? More realistic? McDavid chooses to leave snow city, and go back closer to his family back to the east. Be serious.

McDavid will move east…closer to where he was born…where Darnell Nurse is not considered a top 4 D.
