He's innocent until it's actually proven that he's guilty of a crime here, or if there was in fact even a crime committed. He said, she said, kinda scenario. We'll see how it plays out in court.
If they aren't guilty, then they should be free to play in anywhere the league for any team that wants to employ them. If they're guilty, then it's a moot point, they'll go to jail. |

I know only the outlines of this story but there are many common sense aspects of this that I don't see being discussed.
1. Was there a camera in the bar when the woman was having the drinks? How many did she have and in what frequency? Was McLeod buying? Was he pressing her to have 1 more? Did she show signs of even minor intoxication? Some of this could establish that he could not have failed to know that the young woman was inebriated and thus any further consent she provides is questionable at best, especially to some impromptu orgy.
2. When he texted his pals to come up to his room, why did he say "quick?" If she is providing consent, what's the hurry? Was there a fear she would sober up?
3. Why did they tape the woman multiple times saying it was all fine? Why was that necessary?
4. In the video, the woman says: "are you recording me?" If she is giving a voluntary recording, how can she be unaware if she is being recorded?
5. How many women, after engaging in some random orgy with full control of their faculties, agree to being recorded in a state of undress saying it was all voluntary? Unless they are still drunk?
6. Apparently several guys came to room but walked out. Was the door open? If so, this woman was having an orgy with multiple people and she was not even caring about whether the door was open or shut? And nobody thought she might be too drunk under these circumstances?
7. Finally, it is entirely possible there may not be enough evidence to send people to jail. But even if that happens, the judge might reprimand players strongly for their judgment (if not their conduct) in final comments. And ff that happens, it is hard for me to imagine that Bettman immediately reinstates them. He has to protect his brand, which is not just the NHL but hockey in general. |

For argument sakes let's say he is cleared of all charges and the NHL has no issue with him coming back.
What could a team truly expect from him? Long time to be out of the game, especially for a goalie. At least some of the other were playing in other leagues so it would be easier for them to transition back. For a goalie I don't know if it'll be that easy. |

If enough ugly testimony about Hart’s behaviour emerges teams may not want to have anything to do with him whether he’s acquitted or not. - Canada Cup
I don't think there is a snowball's chance in hell that ANY of these players play another game in the NHL. But we'll see. |

Oh you guys are cute.
You have no idea how foul this young man is.
Ask Cam Talbot why he left Philly.
The people who know and who played with this kid in junior and growing up - find them EK. Those are the ones who know exactly what happened that night. Probably cause it wasn't the first time.
And for the love of pete stop listening to, and reading Westhead's accounts here. He might seem like he's in the know but he's as in the dark as many seem to be.
There was a ring leader. There were a couple joiners. There were a couple of spectators. It's also apparent there were a few who wandered in....went "oh crap"..and wandered out. - Octavarium
Obviously, you are an insider to a degree because I’ve heard the same stories. However, I’ve gone to several people who are around and knew him, and none of them have told me anything about this being any kind of pattern. I haven’t talked to Cam Talbott, but I can.. I will tell you this and I’m sure you’re aware of this as well. Tales grow taller on down the lines in the hockey universe. NHL folks can really gossip.
If what you say is true then absolutely he should be put away. I just think we need to wait and see what is decided. And I just wanted to put in my two cents about the flyers character as an organization and what I saw of Carter Hart while he was here |

There you have it in writing, Adam French said they are all innocent and should be allowed to play professional hockey again ! |

Just look into something for three seconds before trying to be cute. The KHL will take any player of skill regardless of innocence or conviction if they can legally get there. If Hart is in jail, then there's no problem. I doubt an NHL team touches him even if they give him the all clear and I don't have enough info on the case as I'm not a member of the jury to know what will happen to him. |

How mysterious.
I'll ask Cam the next time we cross paths. Until then, if there's something you know with absolute certainty, spill it please.
The only people who knew what happened that night have either been charged or were subpoenaed, so good luck speaking to them. "Probably cause" sounds as if you're speculating like most are.
It's also apparent you, like the rest of us, haven't a clue. But if you want us to believe that you're dialed in somehow, share it.

I stopped by to say this exact thing. I have no idea if he's innocent or guilty, but we need to remember the basis of our system is "innocent until proven guilty". It's a minor distinction, but if we go with "guilty until proven innocent" then everything breaks down. I apologize as I know it's outside of normal hockey talk, but relevant to the article and discussion and quite frankly, super important for our society. |

Ed Snider, long ago, set the tone and mission statement to treat all people the same and to be kind and give everybody who deserves a chance, a chance. We are still seeing this today through his most loved community project, “The Ed Snyder Youth Hockey Foundation”… which is still going strong years after his death
I call BS on this, this regime has gone way too soft IMHO. Did Kate Smith's family get a chance before the B running things then dragged her name through the mud to appease a media hungry whore? And still this organization sits on it's arse and hopes it goes the way of the dodo. Mr. Snider would NOT have done that! |

I am of the mind that none of these guys should be able to play this sport professionally again, and a few of them probably deserve to be on some kind of registry. I think that about a few players who are in the league who have done awful things. Ignorance is bliss sometimes, sport is about escape, but I really appreciate the blog you have EK. But I think the NHL needs to make a stronger stand on racism, sexual violence, and, trans-homophobia. This firm stance makes the league stronger and better. Its a sad state when kids in Rec leagues are getting away with crap. It needs to end. |

Thanks so much for your response. There’s a lot of allegedly in the things you’re saying here. Trust me if they did it and these things you’re saying are true. I want them wiped off this place in the planet….. I just have to see this all confirmed for first

Thanks Thomas. I always appreciate your opinion as well. I’m not saying they shouldn’t be put away. But I do believe in due process, and I can’t understand how the Carter Hart that I knew was deeply involved. But you never know everything about anybody right?
