a 2nd, 5th, and 6th for negotiating rights?
I don't think Marner will get anything near that. His agent would surely use the market to bring up the AAV on an 8 year dear by negotiating 7 year deals with other teams. |

Why would Marner accept a sign and trade. Darren Ferris is same agent as Broberg. Marner on July 1 can listen to every teams inflated idiotic offers and one sucker gets all 184 pounds of him. No incentive for him to deviate from that plan . |

A trade involving Marner for Sam Bennett makes little sense. Marner likely wants significantly more than what Bennett will ask and Bennett's first choice is to return with the Panthers. Not sure how Marner to Florida could ever make any sense. |

Marner may get a better reception when he plays in Toronto if a sign and trade were to happen. This way he won’t have to go through what JT does, when he returns to the Island. Also, Marner and his family are in southern Ontario, so it might be easier to be there in the off season if he throws the team a bone. Remember when Marner had people yelling at him on the streets when he was thought to be holding out!!? A sign and trade would help with this stuff for his family I’m sure. |

His reputation died when his mom started flossing in public. He’s not giving up money so people in Toronto will like him. |

Wouldn't be surprised if any sign and trade doesn't involve a returning contract the Leafs want. Vastly increases the number of teams able to sign him if they get to clear out salary at the same time. |

Agreed . That is total overpayment for rights to a UFA. |

He might if it's to a team he wants to play for. He would get an extra year in the contract - assuming he's looking for a long-term deal.

No way the 8th year is worth what he’d give up by not going to market. |

It really depends on who he signs with.
I don't think it's worth trading much to get the 8 year benefit, but for him if he's in a situation he likes it's well worth trading a few bucks.
There are teams he signs with where taxes alone make it financially viable. |

Love how most media people. EK is extremely questionable with that title but LA will be high rolllers this offseason and have a better team than both UTA and NSH |

What would he give up?
Its not like hes going to make over $14m on the open market, and his agent will already have a decent idea if what teams will be offering.
So an 8th year could be really valuable to him, specially if he wants the headlines of signing a huge deal. |

Marner is not going to sign and trade. He will, however, come back one day with the cup and share it with his home town.

Mirtle said this morning at the draft combine he heard the Ducks are prepping to offer 14M+ and make him the highest paid player.
Could see both SJ and Ducks offering 14M. |

Having to work an extra year to get pretty much the same money isn’t necessarily the win you think it is. Either way, a shorter deal is probably the best way to go. It lets him cash in at a higher cap. |
