Kane's in the top 5, but Walter Payton would like to respectfully disagree as to who is #2. The NFL named their freaking 'Man of The Year' award after him.

From the last blog...couldn't agree more. Agree with LA too. Banks was a bit before my time but probably deserves a spot as the Cub representative on the Chicago sports stars Mt Rushmore.

Think your blog pretty much sums it up. Should be a pretty uneventful deadline for the Hawks. Would be great if KFC could weaponize and effectively use some Cap Space to get a high pick or prospect.

I think they will help a team out by retaining salary on an expiring deal or they will take a bad contract that has one (maybe two) years left.

I personally wouldn't be surprised if they end up hanging on to Beauvillier "if" they think he will resign for a less expensive short term contract.

i.e. he knows he will probably get more opportunity in Chicago than he will elsewhere.

For example a 1 to 2 year deal in the 2-3 million dollar range or so. I don't think he will get another 4.15 mil anywhere in the league right now, unless he can build up his value again. Not saying it's a sure thing, I wouldn't be surprised either way with him. I think he has been liked by the coaching staff.

I’d give you guys a 4th for Blackwell. You cool with that?

Yes LA, Ernie is absolutely up there with Michael and Walter in the pantheon of Chicago sports greats.

At the TDL I'd expect T Johnson dealt, other than that the Hawks could be the 3rd party in a deal between two teams to retain salary. Those deals typically don't bring back much, usually a mid-round pick.

If KD takes on back contract for assets I would expect that around the draft.

I was always partial to Mark Buehrle as a great Chicago athlete.

The guy did it all with junk, consistently a top pitcher in the league when you start digging into the metrics and stuff though completely unsexy, worked quickly and efficiently, really the working mans pitcher.

Maybe we'll see KD ship off an RFA like Raddysh, Katchouk or similar if they don't fit into next years plans. Not saying there would be much return but maybe there is a team looking for a bit more PK depth going down the stretch.

Right, Payton, half the '85 Bears come before Kane, hockey is still a niche sport in Chicago. Banks, Santo, more Chicago fans know Mark Buehrle than Kaner.

Responding to Steve from the last blog:

Agree on Dean having an impact. Kinda like when Trent Yawney was here and all those guys came up. There needs to be a base level of talent but having the right coach is really important as well.

Reichel is an enigma. You'd think he should be a fast confident attacker who slashes into the middle and creates chances. The technical ability is there. There are some nice passes he makes and there are a few goals he had pulled off the line.

But - I think there are issues with his decision making as well as his positional awareness. I don't think that he knows where to be on the ice or he just has a propensity to drift and hasn't overcome that mentally. Those two things should have been sorted out in the AHL.

Another interesting thing is if you start looking at the top AHL scorers since 2008 his name pops up twice. There are a few players that seem to be developing into decent NHL players but not many. Rossi, for example. (this is drafted prospects filtered)

https://www.eliteprospect...08-2009&prospects=drafted

You don't even see a 35 point player like some of his peers who make it are showing.

I think at this stage you keep him in the AHL for the rest of the year - hope he finds some kind of scoring touch - give him a qualifying offer or even a 2 way deal for like 1.2 million per would be fine - and just see what happens. He either earns a spot and realizes potential or doesn't.

Consider the source. Is he going to make any appreciable difference on this team over Mrazek? Nope.

A very interesting twist from the PWHL to deter tanking.

I kind of like it, but it will be interesting since there will be so many variables that go into those results (injuries, date of elimination, etc).

And I'd label Maddux the thinking man's pitcher. I think he had better stuff than Buehrle but also wasn't a flamethrower. He had so much movement on his pitches and was just fun to watch him work hitters.

I do too. And several ways you could conduct the remaining draft order. Worst record then selects #2 or who knows.

You could do away with the whole lottery thing.

And we would see trade stipulations of "pick 17 protected" in the future.

Sox I would go Minnie Minoso or Luis Aparicio.
