been some sweet moments this season but it's mostly been trash hockey. don't see it getting any better unfortunately. they show up against the leafs and some of the other douchebag teams, but choking against the rangers outside after making them look foolish for 2 periods, the morale is poop. they're gonna have to blow up this team, the inconsistency and flaws from the days of club cappy are still here |

I do not think they need to blow the whole thing up. The question moving forward is who can the legitimately move and buy out. I think you need to take a serious look at moving Nelson. He is by far the best tradable asset the team has. He should be able to garner a 1st and a good prospect.
To me the untouchables are Sorokin, Dobson, Barzal, Horvat. Everyone else can be had for price. If you have to eat a little salary to make the move do it.

I think the way to go is trading Nelson and see if there is anyone else you can move.
Team should build around Sorokin, Dobson, Barzal, Horvat.

The season in a nutshell. Yesterdays play where Barzal skated circles all around the Ozone, held the puck for 30 seconds while doing it and then dumped the puck back to the blue line and no one was there. Thats the Islanders season.
I say blow it up . Everyone is available for the right price. A contender with a weak goalie offers 2 first rounders an NHL player and a prospect? See ya Sorokin. |

There's zero chance of that happening. Theyre not going to deal Sorokin for a pair of late first round picks and a prospect.
Lou has already said he's not going to do a full rebuild and I don't think Lou is going anywhere.
Personally I wouldn't consider a total rebuild either.
If I were Lou, Horvat, Barzal, Dobson, Sorokin, & Romanov are my core. Everyone else can be had for the right price.
First line of business should be finding a home for Clutter and Martin. They are cheap rentals whose space can be used for player development.
I'm begging anyone to take Lee while offering to retain 50% of his salary. (buy out is the other option) That move isn't just about replacing an increasingly ineffective player, but also sending a shockwave through the lockeroom.
Nelson would be shopped but only for a high price. Everyone else can be had.
In reality, I don't think we're likely to see any significant departures.

Lou not going anywhere is the biggest issue. What has Lou done to show he understands today's NHL? I cannot believe there is the possibility of keeping an 81-Year-old GM for a team that has not won anything since the last ECF. It's not enough that Lou is not Garth. Islanders need a lot more from a GM now. |

I would look at the team that might want Nelson and try and parlay him into that elusive left wing for the top line. See what team has the best left-wing prospect that is NHL ready. Grab him and maybe a first.

Ownership cannot afford a complete rebuild. They to keep the building as close to capacity as possible. Hence the reason a re-tool makes more sense. I also highly doubt that any contender is going to give that much for a goalie on an 8 year deal. They would not be able to fit him under their cap space.

Agree on the core. Martin and Clutter at best would be salary moves. If you got a draft pick, it is a bonus.
Lee is not moving at the deadline unless someone is in need of veteran depth. His contract would be the sticking point for a contender. Lee is an off-season or draft move. The team will need to eat salary.
After moving Lee I would make Horvat your Captain. I think he gets it just by his interviews alone. Plus he and Barzal have formed a bond.
Nelson as I previously mentioned if moved, should be for the elusive left wing for the top line. There has to be a prospect out there that meets this.
If they can recoup some draft capital and monies, make the moves on the others.
Lastly, while this may make since to all of us. I believe Lou sees it differently.

LW is an absolute must. We need two of them for the top six imo. I don’t know what they do w engvall. Not top 6, no way I play home over holmy, and he doesn’t check so can’t play 4th line.
That in my mind is Lou’s dumbest signing. |

I'm not sure the fans are going to support a team that just struggles along either. The sooner the team re-tools or re-builds and does it the right way, the sooner they can come out of it become a legit contender. Just delaying things will only make things worse.

I don’t think there’s that much to do. From
Each line as it stands you have Barzy/Horvy…Nelly/Palms…Pageau/Holmy(Engval?)…zeeker/Maclean. The need is 1/2 LW’s. Can find a grinder on the cheap for 4th line. |

Nelly and Palms are not getting any younger. I think you need two move both and even Pageau. This team has issues with the dmen as well even if they can find two quality LW's. |

I hear you but just saying a quick retool with what they have, those would be the spots. I don’t think Lou is moving any of them so just going with what they have. |

Lou should be fired soon and let another GM come in and either retool are rebuild.
I just hope the owners see it is time and dont let him trade more picks . |

I think this can be addressed via Free Agency regarding the D. I would resign Reilly. He has performed well enough to bring back. There are a few other D that will not break the bank to fill the 5/6 role. They need to add solid LW with speed and skill for top spot.

Rumor swirling that teams are calling the NY Islanders on Brock Nelson.
Teams mentioned to be circling are the Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and NY Rangers. |
