Unless you consider first round draft picks as subtraction.

Weird yesterday the BPT website didn't have him there.

Regardless, it's odd to me that his ECHL stats are very bad and his AHL stats are very good. There hasn't been much talk about him so I'd assume there's not a lot there...yet. He's huge and NHL teams love big goalies so maybe he pans out in a few years.

Maybe he’s getting better?

Maybe, just is so weird that in the same season he had significantly worse statistics playing in an inferior league

Totally expected. Like I said a tiger doesn’t change his stripes. As long as Lou is here just have to hope the team plays above expectations because it’s them or bust. 😂

We know it’s not due to bridgeports stifling defense.

A 1st round pick would only be a subtraction if what you are getting in return does not live up to what you gave up. Some might think giving up picks for Horvat was a mistake. Yet he is producing and having a positive impact on the team.

Draft picks are hit and miss to me. Look at the Isles history regarding 1st rounders. Based upon that alone I would move the pick until they can get a better scouting staff.

If you are developing 50% or better on 1st rounders you keep em.

Maybe scouting is an issue as well? Still not a good idea trading #1 picks ever year.

I think if you’re ok with the team being a perpetual bubble team then you’re ok with the Horvat trade. I like Horvat, he’s playing well BUT will the team be truly competitive in his prime? Thats the reality question. If not would the team be better served holding onto picks to get younger? Like I stated earlier it’s irrelevant really because Lou will never go that route but I’m not sure if not drafting because the team sucks at drafting is the right answer either.

The Islanders are middle of the pack because they have not kept their picks and developed young players better. Team has not been willing to move on from vets when needed.

Also, most 1st round picks don't usually turn into star players. There's a little more certainty at the top of the draft and you see the odd guy selected in the back half of the round turn into a superstar...but just having young, cheap players that can contribute has value all on its own. It frees up money to spend on stars elsewhere instead of having to sign dead weight like Scott Mayfield to stupid contracts to fill those spots.

After placing Scott Mayfield on LTIR and activating Hudson Fasching off LTIR, the #Isles now have an LTI Salary pool of $4,450,000 with $2,487,500 in usable space remaining.

The club currently has a full 23-man roster.

So they can add a net-increase of $2.487M at the deadline

Exactly! Just because a #1 pick may not be a star, does not mean they have no value. Very difficult to continue to operate like the Islanders in a Cap world.

Yep but like I said it’s kind of irrelevant because Lou is going to do Lou things. Just have to hope for some entertaining hockey until that changes.

Maybe the ECHL is a more offensively leaning/defense optional league? I really don’t know.

Has Lou ever had a sell-off at the deadline? Off the top of my head, I can’t really remember one.

It has been a scouting issue for years.

Still not a good idea trading #1 picks ever year.
No, it is not a good idea to trade a #1 year after year.
