Any player who had done this when Ed Snider was still alive and running the show would have been traded just like Carter and Richards were for similar disloyalty to the organization’s community commitments.

Hockey is for everyone... unless of course you think for yourself and stand by your own convictions, then of course you should be punished and hockey is not for you that evening.

It seems after all that this DOES have to do with religion, as that is what Provorov said was the case. He didn't say he hates homosexuals. He said he respects everyone's right to choose and be themselves. You, however make it pretty clear where you stand. "It is 2023, not 1600." I guess if you were to just come out and say that religion is outdated and has no place in our modern society that you'd expose yourself for the hypocrite I suspect you are. Is hockey for Christians, too?

Can you define for me what a reasonable promotional event is? Let me help you out, the key word here is reasonable, which maybe next time they're going to want to leave out. It wasn't reasonable for Provorov to be expected to abandon his personal values and convictions and pretend to be something he's not. Would you like to be forced to wear a cross on Faith Night? I guess that's a moot point because we can't have Faith Night as it might make some people feel uncomfortable. Sound familiar?

You don't get to simply punish people because they don't fall in line and wave the flag that you believe is morally superior. Let's be honest here, that's what this is about. That's why you're so outraged: you have to remind everyone that your moral compass is superior. Again, it's OK when you do it, but when people of faith do it it's wrong.

Provorov isn't stopping homosexuals from playing in the NHL. He isn't asking the NHL to discontinue Pride Night. He doesn't seem to hate anyone. But I can see there are some things in this world the "morally superior" crowd hate and cannot tolerate. And indeed, this is the land of the brave, which the last I checked was usually synonymous with people that stood up for their beliefs rather than conformed and hid behind the safety of popular opinion.

I wonder how many other Christian skaters were too afraid to stand up for their faith and their convictions and simply went along so that they didn't outrage the professionally intolerant and terminally victimized?

That being said, if Provorov was forced to participate in warmups or was benched, then the same people who are criticizing him, would be “defending his religious beliefs”. Unfortunately for him, because he was allowed to skip warmups, now he’s in the public bullseye. As the wind blows today, religious beliefs are lower on the trendy scale. We all know the winds will change soon enough and he’ll be a “hero” for standing up for himself.

Read it. Didn't see a single quote by Ivan Provorov about his personal and insatiable hatred of the alphabet community or his desire to see them stripped of civil liberties. Can't find a quote from Provorov about supporting the war on Ukraine. I did find bigot EJ Hradek suggesting that Provorov should go home and fight in the war.
