It's tough messing around with waivers on goalies. They frequently get claimed because someone is always dealing with injuries. When they do, you can end up in a lot of trouble. No issue planning to waive Comrie, but you need someone else capable of playing too. Maybe it's Suban again.

Agreed, but does that mean trading UPL. If UPL is assigned to Rochester right out camp, does he still have to clear waivers for that ?

Yes, he'd have to clear and he likely wouldn't.

I expect Levi + UPL, but think they'd be better off moving UPL and finding an experienced partner for Levi.

They should have done the same for Dahlin, Power, and probably a few others.

So do I, especially if Levi and UPL split the rest of these games. Decisions Decisions Decisions

Not as big, but kinda put himself in a corner with UPL, almost like Ullmark with the 1yr Deal

Defense has been a issue since before Adams, but he really hasn't helped himself out there either.

Hard to blame KA for that. It's an issue for anyone who doesn't secure a roster spot before losing their exemption.

One interesting part on UPL that I hadn't noticed is that 2018/2019 counts as a year, when he played 1 game in Roch on an ATO. Annoying game in hindsight.

The smart decision for next year is

Levi
Bring in a good goalie
UPL

Send Comrie to roch

Why: UPL sucks but he’s also 24. Give him another shot

Comrie to roch - no nhl team will claim him due to his cap hit

Puts a little wrench in things, UPL isn't gonna clear. He is still young in Goalie standards.

Mitts it's more about the goals, and I am the last to defend him.
Boosh isn't here to score goals
Greenway is still a Head scratcher to me, unless he magically picks his game up. Where does he fit.
Krebs I don't know what to say

- Buff36

I mean that's his issue but he game has turned into a pass first forward who can thread needles. Shooting streaks come and go and the only thing I want him to do is shoot more. Even if he's cold, keep shooting. But if he's getting 40-60 assists and only 15 goals idk if I really care too much.

Kulich’s just the fourth player in league history to score more than 20 goals in his 18-year-old season and the first since Syracuse’s Robert Dome in 1997-98.

Is that more of who he is playing with though. Especially with Skinner and Tuch. He has a sneaky good shot, just seems to be looking more pass at this point.

No one wants to elevate him to the first line so I am not sure where you are getting that from.

Did you know Tage was hurt and thats why he played on the first line? And he filled in admirably and Tage came back so he went back to the third line.

Krebs has 1 assist in his last 5 games and no goals in his last 10 and you want to elevate him to the 1st line. Thats more confusing.

- sabresfan69

Why the salty attitude?

Of course I know Tage was injured, and that is how Mitts got moved up.

Just curious as to why Donnie tries a newcomer Greenway on that line, then puts Mitts, who cannot score on that line. All the while ignoring a central piece in the Eichel trade.

Just curious as to what people feel Mitts brings and or what doesn't Krebs.

Thats why I said "discuss" at the end.

No need to talk down to me.

Good post.

I'd kinda be suprised to see levi/ upl next season.

I think levi is definitely in buffalo, that was part of the hold up. He didnt want to play in Rochester, if he proved his nhl worth.

Worth = proven.
He was spectacular in both games.
Looks like high blocker is the target...

I think homie mentioned Varlamov, probably a vet for 1 or 2 years max.

Upl is dookie.

What kind of value does upl carry at this point?

Maybe 2nd round?

I think he gets traded for a pick or an upgrade/ older vet goalie IMO.

They saw what they needed to see or not see IMO.

and yes, he's young for a goalie....

Let someone else develop him ..... or not...

IMO

Mitts brings more of an nhl rounded game vs krebs...

More offensive upside , can distribute the puck better.
Flanked with 2 scorers in skinny and tuch.

Krebs is kinda playing a solid 4th line role ...

Greenway on the 1st line was an excuse for pounding the table for him. Hopefully get him going.

My understanding is they expect greenway as more of a "middle 6" then the obvious okposo replacement.

Goalie A: 34yo vet .913sv% on one of the best defensive teams in the league
Goalie B: 24yo rookie .892sv% on one of the worst defensive teams in the league

Which player should a team at the end of a rebuild be coveting? Furthermore, if roles were reversed, wouldn't we expect the 34yo goalie to clock in around the 24yo's sv% with that change of setting?

- joshs

What is Krebs to Krebs? What is Krebs to Buffalo?

You want that question answered when Buffalo doesn't even know.

At the moment I know he isn't a first line player. That much we do know.

Despite what KA did this year, I don’t think you can carry 3 goalies on the NHL roster next year

Just an opinion, but going young goalie / younger goalie seems a bit off base IMO. UPL/LEVI

I appreciate the stats, and the Sabres play a wide open game.

Maybe they go unorthodox and keep comrie in Rochester.

Next year feels like a "time to win year".

Do we really have time or even need upl to be a good professional as an organization?

2 games of Levi is a small sample size, but it's his job IMO. 50+ games

So the Sabres are looking for a 30 game 1B vet to help him out outside the rink and around the game itself.
Provide some good insurance if levi struggles.

Definitely will be a “time to make the playoffs “ year
James Reimer sounds like what you describe.

Is this Carter Hart vs Varlamov?

I’d go for Hart and I’d try to pry Sanheim or Noah Cates with him

There's a full roster of NHL players already here and under contract. Any of them coming back shouldn't surprise. VO is probably the least likely, and even him coming back shouldn't surprise.

I'm prepared for a less active offseason than I'd like. Slow and internal is their way.
