This was interesting to me:
Even if it was a long shot I thought the idea of Dubas being a President of Hockey Operations and having a GM under him in Pittsburgh was one of the better paths for the Penguins to go down. Dubas effectively being out of play narrows down the intriguing candidates.
I do not follow the Maple Leafs at all outside of seeing them a bit during this last playoff series. What about Dubas' tenure in Toronto makes you think being a Pres of Hockey Ops fwould be the best position for him?

I have no idea. I don't even know what that position does. Does Dubas have any experience in that position? I'm glad he's not going to be the next GM. Very overrated, IMO.
Became GM at 32 and everyone thinks he's this analytics mastermind wunderkind. But how hard is it to get players where seemingly everyone wants to play and the Leafs are the same ol' team every year. That ridiculous Tavares contract where he bid against himself has been and will continue to haunt them.
I don't think Shanahan is that great at his job, either. |

Who would you rather have: Hextall, Chiarelli, or McGuire? Call me crazy, but I think I'm going with penishead.
Edit: On second thought, I'm going with chia pet. In other words, it could be worse. |

Jesus Christ lol at least they interviewed Tulsky. Let’s hope he did well lol (frank)ing Chia. Can’t believe he’s still in the league. Didn’t even realize he was VP of hockey in St Louis. |

Guys get courtesy interviews all the time. I do not think we’d seriously consider either. Bergevin scares me a bit because he’ll always have Mario in his corner but I’d still be shocked if that was the direction. |

Honestly Hex is the least incompetent out of that bunch. Maybe McGuire because he’s been out of the game so long that he’s technically an unknown commodity now so has the biggest upside off default, but he’s still an incompetent. Chiarelli definitely is the worst option. |

IDK.... Hextall pretty much butchered the Pens in 2 years. With his work here, he'll likely never get an interview for another GM job. Not saying he's good, but I think Chia won a cup with Boston.

Not too long ago it was reported Mario has zero input or involvement with the team. Frosty relationship with FSG. I could be wrong, but I think FSG will hire an "up and comer" over a retread. If I were hiring, I'd interview retreads too. I'd want to hear multiple perspectives.
I can't remember who reported it, but it sounds like FSG will spend whatever it takes to get the guy they want.

If none of the above isnt an option, I'm going with PM. He hasn't really proven his incompetence other than his TV work. That's just annoying....not incompetence. |

The reason Chiarelli is so bad is because he’s completely stuck in the league he won that cup in over a decade ago. His work in present era speaks for itself. Hextall’s not on that level, he’s mediocre to bad but he’s not the worst GM in the league bad like Chia. Hex’s mediocrity had a disproportionately bad effect on our team due to the age of our stars and truncated window. If Sid, Geno, and Letang were still in their late 20s, nothing Hex has done or didn’t do couldn’t have been course corrected in time. Chiarelli dismantles teams trading away good players for bad players. Hex never subtracted from our team the same way Chiarelli does to his. He just never added enough and managed the outyear cap poorly. |

Yohe made a good point that Chiarelli fired Sullivan in Boston... if Sullivan has the pull in the organization that we all think he does, there isnt a chance in hell Chiarelli is hired.
If so, the Rangers might get their wish.

I think the reason that organizations interview Chia is to "establish a bottom" - a point of reference for the worst possible candidate. I guess the "true bottom"/"absolute zero" is Milbury, but I don't think any organization is that insane to give him interviews anymore, especially considering how difficult and costly buyouts are nowadays.
As far as the GM job goes, I think McGuire has the knowledge but not the skills. He knows the peewee teams that every single player in the league played for but would be too easily be taken advantage of by other GM's. Even worse is his massive ego that would eventually cause him to make some very ruinous decisions, especially if he had some early success. I wish I had recorded the broadcast where he said he once coached Mario Lemieux.
This GM job will be very challenging, as right off the bat he will have to deal with the goalie situation (Jarry will be a FA in about 1.5 months and Desmith is the only other nhl goalie they have signed) and have the highest draft pick the organization has had in years. |

Where does the sentiment that Dubas is actually good at his job come from? Toronto made it as far as the Pens could have with a good coach. |

I knew the Pens should not hire Dubas before that press conference. After watching Dubas invoke his family 9 times during that interview in an effort to purposely avoid tough questions, I am 100% convinced neither the Pens nor any franchise above midget should hire that clown. Most overrated and immature gm in all of sports. |

Dude seriously. This place is basically the online equivalent to a beer league dressing room. A place we come to escape all other aspects of life for hockey and subsequently talk S#@T on each others stupid hockey opinions. Leave your Trump/Biden political opinions in the comments section somewhere else. In my actual dressing room the rule is, any mention of politics means you have to stand with your hands at your back while we throw tape balls at your groin.

He is by no means some superstar GM but he’s pretty solid asset management wise and a decent drafter. Plus he isn’t a fossil with 20 years of red flags already. |

That would be pretty (frank)ed up considering he had to stop playing growing up due to concussions. |
