I'm hoping to see some injured Ducks players return tonight, too. Zegras, McTavish, and Drysdale have been on this roadie with the Ducks and they haven't played yet. Why bring them on the trip if they aren't going to play?

That wouldn’t be a shock. I can’t believe he made it back into the game after Risto elbow. I haven’t seen anything yet but have been working on “broadcast buzz” catchup

Ok all, I’m going to have to cover this a bit tomorrow. Crain’s Detroit has reported that Amazon has approached Bally/Diamond Sports about acquiring rights for Detroit broadcasts. Timing is interesting as Bally is set to close its doors after next year’s MLB season. But, they are in danger of missing more payments. Amazon is going to try and get the NBA away from ESPN along with Apple. Bezos made history by presenting a streaming only NFL contest after Thanksgiving. If they successfully close this deal, they can give the NHL the money it would take to get a bump in the cap and get rid of debt that keeps going up. The shutdown debt is compounded by a billion dollar loan the league took out and the 40% drop from American to Canadian currency.

ESPN is pushing to be full streaming by 2025 and potentially lumped in with Hulu and D+. This would make both major American partners streaming providers. I’m curious as to how many of you are feeling prepared to switch to that platform as we have savants in the comments who are using VPN to do it already. Some of those guys are incredibly giving in their experience and worth listening to.

I cut cable 15 years ago and I have less than zero interest in paying $60, $80, $100+ per month for a TV package full of channels that I never watch, regardless of whether that package is delivered to me via traditional cable TV or through a streaming app.

If I could pay a reasonable monthly price just to stream in-market Red Wings games, like what the MLB has done for broadcasts they've taken over from Bally, I would be interested.

The price being floated is around $35. Honestly, if I could see the games, I’d do it and cancel after the season. TV is just a crap sandwich anymore

This is so understatedly brilliant. Not in terms of a move to streaming, but in Amazon saying, “see, we handled things seamlessly and have the infrastructure set up. No need to bid it out”. There are still people holding on to the hope that over the air will supplant cable and streaming. I’ve tried to explain that the “digital” antennas getting free programming is just tapping into bandwidth acquired as stations shut down their own antennas. Now you have cell companies, and internet (Musk in particular) all bidding for the same space. I left Comcast around 2012 and this was already happening. 16 digital programs can be sent over the bandwidth of one analog. They can also hand off tower to tower nation wide where traditional transmission just stops once you’re out of range. Thank you for sending those. I was actually hurt pretty badly when I started working on this a couple years ago. A lot of nasty stuff thrown my way. Don’t get me wrong, filling the air with more signals is not a healthy idea. Whitmere just installed a road that wirelessly charges electric vehicles to test. That’s more radiation now coming from underneath the car and a draw on the grid. Still, it’s been fairly obvious that streaming, no matter how badly executed at times, is taking over and once that bandwidth is gone, it’s gone.

I was talking to a friend about this earlier. This is why I couldn’t be a sports owner. Ottawa is in a tough spot. Hockey GMs and owners love to look at the recycle bin or the AHL for coaches. The pressure a new owner applies makes that the safe bet. I honestly wanted Barry Trotz for a long time. He seems to have had the ability to squeeze water out of a rock at times. You want to get someone who makes an impact immediately and appease owner and fans alike. Not the pressure I’d want.

Wings down 2-0 in the first against the Ducks... what a $hitshow. Husso's first goal was a soft goal... big surprise. Wings look like absolute crap this first period. Can't generate any scoring chances.

EDIT: Now it's 3-0. Going to shut the game off I'm so disgusted. The WIngs need two points and they flat out suck tonight.

I totally agree with you , I was excited to get Kane but since his arrival this team has been outright embarrassing. If they lose tonight to The ducks who are missing their top two players and perhaps there best defenseman it’s time to hold people accountable.

Welp, Husso did go down injured.... hate the injury, but maybe he won't play for a while.....I know, crappy thing to say but he's just getting worse, as is our D, as are the dumb penalties......I hope Husso's ok, seriously don't like seeing injuries.....
