Nobody is calling MacKinnon a giant bumhole now, at least not publicly, but wait until they begin losing.
It'll come out at that point. - kingcong39
ATW was reading our old friend Zadorov’s quotes about the locker room and the militancy.
Compared McK to the way Jordan ran the Bulls.
Not everyone can work that way and if you don’t win then it’s an awful environment.

Those are called losers, and they leave for losing environments... Like the Sabres, lol. |

And to win you need a roster full of stars and the ability to roll 4 lines.
Elite teams have poopty cultures too, just nobody talks about it because they win.
The Sabres have a coaching and lack of talent issue. The leadership will take care of itself once they solve both - Swedish_Jesus
Those are only a fraction of the problems in Buffalo.
Some elite teams have poopty culture...all poopty teams have poopty culture.

The Sabres missing the playoffs this year is the only wrong take I’ve had since being pissed about the Quinn pick (and even that remains TBD due to his durability issues) - Swedish_Jesus

Ottawa scores 2 in 1st
Sabres come back with 1 in 2nd
In the 3rd, the boys are thinking of golf, where they are going as a group in the off-season, where they are meeting up after the game...all the things winners are contemplating in a close game.
5-1 Ottawa. |

Greenway is a bottom of the league depth player that should be on a minimum contract. It's a disaster of a contract and Adams traded away the pick that turned into Heidt, a top player in the WHL 117 points in 66 games. - Watch that pick turn out to be a better player than Rosen etc. Greenway was a gamble trade that the prospect whisperer that is Don Meatball could help improve. That is a failure from top to bottom and will remain for the duration of his contract.
Benson should have stayed in juniors, I agree with that. The try-hard narrative is irrelevant. The Sabres suck with him, the needle moves little with him out of the lineup, he is irrelevant too often, piss poor management of him. - washedup20
You should tell the same to Anaheim and Columbus...

I get why they got sucked into Benson. Hot preseason, hot early season while still under 10 games. But a professional GM and coach have to know better. They made a fan level decision. - Buffalo--Sabres
Or cause going back to junior would have done nothing for the kid.
Matthew Savoie back to Junior tearing it up = wasted year of development
Benson not going back to junior somehow is bad as well?
Damned if you do damned if you don't with fans around here

Nono, you should tell those teams cause their 2nd and 3rd overall picks have the same stat line as Benson.. except they're like -21

Benson (who's been better than Savoie for 2 years) should for some reason be playing in juniors?

Serious question - what the heck happened with Buffalo this year?
One of the deepest pools of prospects and young players I've seen in my lifetime, why haven't they turned the corner? I'm not trolling, seriously interested. What do they need to take the next steps? |

Terrible mismanagement of the goalies to start the year. Terrible mismanagement on player personnel from the offseason to just daytoday line ups. Threw away their offensive game in the name of defense. Waited to long to adjust. Gave the keys to the PP to Matt Ellis, didnt take them away till it was too late. Injuries to major players. Still very young. Ya know the regular excuses.

Savoie played juniors post draft - this year he was supposed to make the NHL as a top 10 draft pick would be expected to, specifically on a team that needs talented players and has committed to using the NHL as a development team. Him playing junior again is a disappointment, especially when the NHL team needs a 3rd line and Savoie can't even earn an opportunity.
Benson is the flashy new toy, his work ethic shined (which is an indication of a bigger issue for the organization) but he has not done anything to show another year in juniors wouldn't of been good for him, even to shield him from being around such failure.
Drafted two different years, both have different expectations. Benson making the team over all the players in one of the top prospect pools and produces the way he did exposes the weakness in the organization that is thought of as a strength. The GM held a roster spot open for a rookie to take and this is the best we got?

Savoie doesnt hurt his shoulder is a different story. But he did so they kept him around as long as they could then sent him down.
Benson work ethic does shine through, so do his intangibles... They're easy to see if you care about more than points. His underlying's have been great, hes had the chances to be a 20ish goal scorer this year, didnt happen. Kid plays all situations and does it well. More than you could ask for at 18 IMO.
I couldn't care less when they were drafted or who Benson has jumped ahead of or if we even have a top prospect pool. When the players better and earns the opportunity you give it to him.
99% of the team underachieved offensively... Him being with that 99% means very little to me. |

I've heard this for the last decade. It means nothing.
What we need is a new owner who doesn't go cheap with inexperienced GM/coaches and isn't so dumb to think that signing Taylor Hall a few years ago meant we were a cup contender. We're getting a new roof, though, that should be capable of holding all the new championship banners that are sure to come our way from that deep prospect pool.
