The GM drafted 5 1st rounders, then intentionally held a roster spot open in a season where they were expected to make the playoffs. Benson getting handed a spot and top 6 minutes and producing like a low end 3rd liner is success?
No one is even addressing the fact that Power is treading water in the bust category. - washedup20

You continue to astound me with your complete ignorance of the typical timeline required for NHL Prospects to develop. Your views posted here are based on unrealistic expectations, those of which are supported by years (decades) of historical data.
Power has indeed has stepped back after a rather impressive rookie season...and it is very common, to the point it has a name for it..Sophomore Slump. He has miles to go to substantiate his 1-OA selection no doubt, yet traditionally Dmen don't round into form until their mid twenties or the 2nd-half of their twenties. Power has years to go to travel those miles of needed development.
I'd argue the best course for Benson was to play a full season in the NHL rather than wasting a year in Jr's. He too has miles to go, it is very evident...yet he is ahead of nearly everyone in his draft class for having played up. I wish Savoie could have gone this route as well this season, rather than 0laying against guys 2 and 3 years younger.
Be better.

Won't matter if they don't get the proper Development and leadership. Sabres are very bad with this and it's been a non stop cycle for a Decade. |

From The Athletic...I wonder if Terry and Adams read their articles...some good opinions there...
"Your bad team’s late-season push doesn’t tell you anything — Look, I’m sorry to break it to you, but at least you’re hearing it from a friend. If your team stinks, and has been losing all season, you’re probably already mostly tuned out. You deserve a little optimism, and that could mean watching your team finish hot down the stretch, maybe even beating a few legitimate contenders. You can build on that, right?
Well, not really. Those contenders were looking past you, and your team was probably facing their backup goalies. Finishing a lousy season with a 6-and-4 record doesn’t accomplish anything other than hurting your draft position and giving your GM cover to stand pat during the offseason. Eat at Arby’s."
I doubt it, can't wait for Adams post season presser when he will take the opp9site stance to push his "in-house" strategy ... mostly due to the fact he has a very piss poor closing rate. |

The game has gotten younger, the team is designed by the GM to let these young kids develop in the NHL. It's not working. There are young players throughout the league fitting in well, some even thriving...none in Buffalo (or Rochester).
The prospects development timeline is unique to each player...Adams drafted tiny, soft players, that's why they are not helping the team they are designed to help. Bad picks, on the wrong team, fighting to fill the wrong roles.
Being a part of a broken team like this season's as an 18 year old is not helpful. What role would you say Benson has filled this season? What has he learned?

As an aside, does the downturn of Kulich make Appert less appealing to take over? He's another one I wouldn't be happy with, but is probably an improvement from Donny. |

That would fit the Pegula narrative when change is needed - its a lateral move. High chance he is just a Yes man in training.

The success Benson is having? What success?
- washedup20
For an 18 year old in the best league in the world ?
Tons of success. He’s the youngest Sabre to do multiple things now. His name is in record books.
Does that count for nothing ? |

Appert seems to have a little more spine than that, but I wouldn't be happy either. Just think that may be how they "shake things up" without costing too much. Sucks being an impoverished franchise again. |

When I saw how much Adams has spent this morning, it just amazes me how poorly he executed the entire plan. I don't think Adams makes a coaching change.
How much of an impact would a coaching change do to this team?

This is true, so why don't you express that in your posts rather than lumping all 32 First Rounders together and expect the same?
Upon review of the summary of the 2023 1st round only (below), and the historical production of players by draft position since the draft was implemented in the NHL (link below), you would be daft to continue with your false narrative. Benson is far out-producing the 52 year average of the 13th pick, furthermore has produced equivalent to a 2-OA.
Who are these players from the 2023 draft who are fitting in well or thriving, lol. Bedard and Carlsson at 1 and 2-OA...that's it.
1 Bedard 59* [21/35/56], *significant games missed due to injury
2 Carlsson 46 [9/15/24]
3 Fantilli 49 [12/15/27]
4 Smith 0
5 Reinbacher 0
6 Simashev 0
7 Michkov 0
8 Danielson 0
9 Dvorsky 0
10 Willander 0

12 But 0
13 Benson 62 [9/14/23]
14 Yager 0
15 Wood 0
16 Honzak 0
17 Sandin-Pellika 0
18 Barlow 0

It needs to be an experienced coach from outside the organization that is allowed to hire seasoned assistants…. Gallant, Berube, etc…(not Lindy, I want him as the president of this team, which won’t happen but should have already) it won’t be any of this, but that what needs to happen.
Appart with ECHL assistants, just more of the same crap we’ve seen for a decade…
What you will probably see if they “shake it up”
Adam’s President
Karmanous GM
Ventura Asst GM
Donnie - Development
Head Coach Appart
Not much movement among Assistants
Okposo - Harbor Center if he doesn’t want to play any more. 1 year $2 mill if he wants to play
Grigs - 1 year 3 mill cause Terry always gets his man |

I was referring to the Sabres prospects, not isolating the 23' draft. That would date all the way back to the Quinn draft.
Providing stats on Benson's year only proves my point that he should not have played in the NHL for the full season.

Prior to JJ Peterka, who was the last Sabres second round pick drafted by the team to have a 25 goal season with the team?
Aside from Zach Benson, who was the last Sabres forward to debut at age 18 and have the success he’s had ? Turgeon ?
How many players in the last decade have had the success Kulich has had as a U20 player in the AHL ?
Noah Ostlund just clicked at a 0.60 PPG pace in the SHL and was robbed of the WJC MVP. He looks every bit the part of a player who will be able to slot in nicely behind Tage and Cozens for the next decade.
Rosen has been trending well. AHL All-Star this year and has rounded out his game. I think he can be the middle 6 forward we were all hoping Olofsson could be.
Only Connor Bedard has had more point production in the WHL with a 2.5 PPG season than Matthew Savoie who finished with 2.08 PPG this season this century.
Who was the last 20 year old forward to click at 1.3 PPG or better in the AHL like Jack Quinn did in his last season there ? Have to go all the way back to 2013/2014 where Ryan Strome clicked at 1.30. Still less than Jack Quinn who had 1.35 PPG.
Komorov is the best d-man in the QMJHL this year.
Novikov, Kozak, Kisakov, Neuchev all are playing key roles on an Amerks team gunning for a playoff spot. - Swedish_Jesus
So with all of this what is your plan to break the drought next year?
Surely it can't be getting younger |

Man, you adherence to a false narrative is...stupefied.
You called out Benson, you called out other picks fitting in and playing well.
Your supposition is unfounded for only the comparable field, his draft class.
Damn, Adams should have drafted Bedard or Carlsson.
Adams and the org have many, many faults, several of which you have properly called out.
Calling out his draft is number 32,546 on Homie's list. |

It will become #1 on the list shortly, your inability to grasp that is entertaining. |
