What revenue would be decreased without a corresponding cost reduction associate with with it? Is it too difficult for you to understand? LOL
I guess you're not intelligent enough to understand that when you say the league would not be financially sustainable, you're talking about profits. LOL
Here is the deal. Even if the players salaries were reduced commensurate with the number of games reduced. It would not cancel out the lost revenue and most importantly, profit. They would lose massive amounts of money. From the TV revenue, which would be reduced and from revenue and profit lost from the hundreds of games not played. Concession revenue, parking revenue, advertising revenue. It would be a disaster for the league and many franchises would be in serious trouble. It's not going to happen. It cant happen. In fact the league would like to increase the number of games played. Not decrease. That is the reality.
You can continue to go on all the spastic and juvenile drunken rants you want and call me any name you want to. This conversation is over and as usual, you don't have the first clue. End of story. - MJL
Dumb(frank). Nobody EVER said there wouldn’t be a reduction in revenue.
Stupid (frank) what is the split if 50/50 of $1 or $5 or $10.
The league would survive with 70 games. It would survive with 50 dumb(frank).
There just wouldn’t be as much profit for owners or pay for players.
None of that is the debate. The debate is you said it’s IMPOSSIBLE for the nhl to reduce games that the league could not survive.
Which is WRONG.

pointless argument..the players will never agree to less games or having their pay cut because of it. - TheFreak
No league is going to reduce games, revenue and ultimately profits. It’s a pointless conversation. It’s an entertainment business and the goal is to make as much money as possible. Kind of a weird topic to even discuss.
There are several fixed costs in running a franchise as well.
Good luck getting the players to take a decrease in pay enough to offset those costs, the obvious losses they’d take from advertising, etc.
Could they “survive”? Maybe, but they will certain make a lot less money and will never do that. |

do you think the flyers will sign any of the top college free agents? if so any names to throw out there? they even talking to anyone?
Or will they end up with Mike Testiwied or whatever his name was.... - hello it's me 2050
They already lost out on one of the more sort after ones. Went to SJS. Why not? Better weather, no ass-hole coach and a much better management group. Good luck with Rizzo. |

Because the NHL is a Mickey MOuse league, horrible leadership, too many teams causing the dilution of its top talent, which they dont market correctly. A horrendous TV deal and choking of the salary cap to allow teams flexibility to form formidable teams - THE BLACK HAND
Just spitballing here...(apologies to purists)
One issue I hear from people, especially younger, is that you can't really understand what is happening on the ice level on tv. It is too hard to determine what makes a great player great. They just see some guys skate really fast and then it goes back the other way, repeat endlessly.
I feel there should be alot more zoom-ins on stick work, edge work, dangling, the shifts and accelerations that characterize real skill. The hockey sense of how players determine when someone is open to receive the puck without looking in their direction. Iowt, play up the art of it. More explanations like in the NFL instead of the usual regular guy banter you see in coverage.
In football, most everything happens on a wide field. Very easy to appreciate/highlight right away, and if you don't, endless tv replays will do it for you.
On tv, it is really hard to determine for the novice viewer what an incredibly skill game hockey is.
In the 1970/80s, snooker (like pool) suddenly jumped to be a big tv event in the UK because they put a camera over the table and zoomed in. More recently, endless commentary and live coverage of strategy, mostly by amateurs, has elevated chess to huge popularity. |

It would cause numerous franchises to lose serious money. The league wouldn't survive it long term.

LMAO. No, he doesn't agree with you. He agreed with me. He posted in reply to my post that he agrees with me. That should've been your first clue!
Here is what else your pee brain can't comprehend. What revenue would be decreased without a corresponding reduction in costs? - MJL You spelled pee wrong. In this text it's PEA brain! Not pee as in the stuff that comes out of your little d!ck.

I am so tired of Tort’s drama queen antics. The parallels between this organization and the Charlestown Chiefs in Slapshot! are too many too name.
Who own da Chiefs? Who own da Flyers?
Reggie Dunlop and John Tortorella.
Ned Braden and Sean Couturier.
Reggie and Ned vs Torts and Couts
Dave Killer Carlson and Nic Deslauriers
The love of old time hockey.
I tell ya, I am waiting for Couts to strip on the ice before the end of the season. That would really capture the spirit of the thing. - Shrike

kiss my anal canal, you pig - THE BLACK HAND
He has got to be one of the biggest idiots on here. Apparently he's a grown man but he uses emoticons like a child. You just have to laugh. How dare you offer an opinion on the NHL. How dare you enjoy the NBA. Wait until you see his dumb ass response. I think I'm going to have to add a couple to the list.

Hayes: ‘It’s never John Tortorella’s fault, it’s always someone else’s fault’

All of you are assuming that less games = less revenue. But one point of the Globe & Mail article was that part of the reason March Madness draws so many viewers is because it is relatively concentrated. Much fewer games = the meaning of every game is very well defined and implication easy to understand => more viewer interest.
The early part of the NHl season is a desultory slogfest... that has very little bearing on who ends up winning the cup. President Trophy winners have not even made it to SC finals 18 times in the past twenty nine years

You're drinking again aren't you? You're making a complete and utter fool of yourself. By all means, please continue. - MJL Nope, just got finished a long productive day of work. Could be a bit punch drunk, but no alcohol as of yet. What's your excuse? Do you actually work for a living or do you just jerkoff on here all day EVERYDAY? |

If you were smart you would admit to drinking. At least that way your absurd behavior could be part way explained.

That would imply that I give a rat's effing ass what you think about me. I have breaking news for you...no one on here really gives a bleeping load of hog cheese what you think of them. You're the one that looks like the biggest clown on here for the simple fact that you literally post on here from 7AM to midnight every day! What amuses me about you the most is the fact that you take yourself so friggin seriously. Now I'm incredulous and you're a forlorn Battle Star Gallactica guy...er...a...something like that. |
