I just think that cap hit number means he's going to end up a Penguin....

I can't imagine they can move Laine without either retaining salary, adding a sweetner, or taking back a bad contract.

If they're willing to retain something like Laine $2.7M/year retained for Ponamarev or Koivunen + a mid-round pick might work. (Here I assume Waddell will want one of the players back he traded for Jake.)

If they don't want to retain then they're going to have to take Graves or there's going to be a larger deal with more parts on both sides.

CBJ is in a tough spot here, which is always a good starting point for working out a trade.

If the graves thing is on the table I think I’m willing to take Laine at full salary.

Yakov Trenin is trending up and could be able to add scoring depth for a team like the Penguins that have a culture of scoring goals. His energy and grit will fit very well.

They've got alot of salary in defense (for that team) so I'm guessing moving Graves would be more than a 1:1 swap. There'd have to be other pieces.

I doubt any trade could be a 1 for 1 swap involving Graves.

Ok, boys. What’s a trade look like? Maybe Rakel for Laine straight up?

Trade smith for a 3rd or 4th, use the pick + a prospect for the trade?

I doubt we trade prospects that we just acquired so maybe Poulin +?

Trade Jarry for some assets and use the acquired assets for a him?

Just spitballing here.

I don’t think trading Rakel for Laine makes us better. Rakel is the better hockey player right now and is much more affordable.

Smith, Graves, Doc, and a 3rd for Laine, Gudbranson, and Oliver.

Laine and Provorov for Graves, Smith, mid-round pick, some prospect I don't care about.

It would be hilarious if Smith sulking for a year because he had to live in Pittsburgh instead of Vegas resulted in him being traded to discount Pittsburgh to be part of an even worse team

Could work out for him though. CBJ would definitely trade him as a rental at the deadline to a contender, and he'd likely get PP1 time there to inflate his stats.

Just kidding really. I’ve not paid a lot of attention to Laines career, but the Pens desperately need players with a solid foundation in hockey. Pretty sure he just snipes and that’s it.

Total floater. You’d hate him. He’d probably be your most hated player on the team.

Grinder would definitely hate him.

His best qualities could be allowing us to dump some bad contracts and helping the PP.

Would definitely hate him. I think he has just been in a couple weird spots and it hasnt worked out. The Jets when he played for them were completely dysfunctional and their leadership group was goofy. Now he is in Columbus where they just really suck.

I think he would have some compete playing on a team like the Pens where he doesnt need to be the star and would get to play with a really top level center. But the last few years he has been a bit like Malkin where the effort is just very inconsistent.

Sniper. As big as graves. As soft as graves. In his Winnipeg days he could score. Never watched him in cbus but damn did they ruin him.

Need a mega trade that returns guddy, volkonov, marchenko, laine, Jenner, and provorov. All out bad players for their good players.

I know he isnt a show stopper or dynamo, but I am really liking Luostarinen from Florida. Just plays a really tight all around game and has some decent offensive ability. Super active stickwork in the defensive zone and really uses his size well (length not physicality). I'd love to see him on the second line with Malkin.

Would be interesting if we could work out a deal with Smith going there for him. I'm also interested in Spencer Knight as a reclamation project but I don't have any idea what a full trade would look like. His buyout is so cheap that Florida would just as well buy him out than give you a bunch of value for taking him back in a trade.
