Atkinson will be bought out. Why would a team trade for him if they can get him on the cheap? |

I get this “treat the player right” aspect and it’s very important. But at what point do the needs of the team outweigh the wishes of the players. Isn’t it enough that the Flyers try hard to find a trade partner? Yet, if Cam nixes those attempts and alternatives at what point does the business of what’s best for the Flyers kick in? This “it’s a business” thing works both ways and buyouts are not necessarily in the team’s best interest. Doing “right by the player” seems to be exactly what the Flyers may be attempting to do by exploring even San Jose. |

There are teams like SJ scratching to hit the cap floor. They won’t care about his cap hit if the flyers eat some and send a late round pick as well.
They should not buyout Atkinson. Why not give him a chance to redeem himself and fight for a bottom 6 role? If the players in the organization believe the flyers “aren’t doing right” by the player because he gets sent to the AHL, then oh well. Like the constant pandering to the players in this organization has done them a world of good over the last 40 years anyway? |

I would rather a buyout over adding compensation if the Flyers are hellbent on getting rid of Atkinson.

If CA won't accept a trade, just keep him on the roster. Play him, scratch him, whatever. But he's off the books either way at the end of the year. Sending him to LHV might be a bad look but I don't really care. He'd be going there because his play has declined a lot at his age. Whether he likes it or not isn't really a concern. Besides, any player that would not consider coming to Philly because they send aging vets who can no longer play up to the NHL level to the AHL is probably a player that's an aging vet that the Flyers have no business signing anyway. In my mind, that's a positive! |

Rumor is Rangers waived Goodrow so SJ could claim him as they want a veteran leader type guy. Goodrow has SJ on his NT LIST and wouldn't accept a trade to SJ. Why dont the Flyers do same thing it is a business not personal. Have to do what's best for the team |

Not a bad idea. But the player doesn't HAVE to go there. And then he's SJ's problem, not the Flyers' problem. And he's off the books and not blocking another younger player from taking a roster spot. |

so in other words, the flyer will cater to cam atkinson.
Disagree that is doesn't play well from a players POV.
they need to do right for the flyers not the player in this instance. they won't however.
also he is ready to move you say, well then mutual termination works. love these dime a dozen players and their demands. |

I get that San Jose isn't in a competitive window, neither are the Flyers, so why wouldn't anyone want to play there? I guess if you've never won anything and your career is winding down, you want to be in a winning situation.....never mind, I answered my own question. |

Waivers are a required step before a buyout.
If the Flyers were to BO Cam they'd have to put him on waivers as well. |

I don't think Columbus is going to give up its 2nd round pick this year so this is probably way off. |

He’ll be gone in a year. I don’t really care if they buy him out or not either way. They shouldn’t even be spending close to the cap next year so if they F themselves with a buyout penalty then they have no one to blame but themselves. The fact a team is even interested in him at this point is surprising imo.
If I were him I’d much rather be in San Jose than the possibility of playing in Allentown lol. Honestly 20 years ago a GM in this situation would probably tell him and his agent to waive the NTC or he’s getting sent down.

Is that Miroslav’s son or just a coincidence? |

CA can mix a trade if he wants, it’s his right. Just like it is the Flyers right to do whatever is in their power such as waiving or demotion. I also hope this teaches them a lesson about older players and long term contracts. It won’t, but I can hope. |

It's not about team optics.
Torts & Co simply like Cam and don't want to end his career like that.
Meanwhile they don't like Johansen and wouldn't mind burying him up to his eyeballs if they could.
Cam is a "Flyer", earned or not. |

I'm sure they're not, but, outwardly the Flyers appear to be directionless. They don't know if they should be competitive, or rebuild, or both at the same time. |

Very true. Absolutely no hesitation burying or attempting to with rojo. No worry about optics there |
