This would be something worth moving the 20th overall pick (and potentially other assets) for - eichiefs9
It would be an interesting idea, but the Islanders still need to move salary.

They do, but this would be a very similar trade to the Romanov one...except with a lot more offensive upside. McGroarty is a very good player and they would essentially be trading the 20th overall pick for a prospect who is on an accelerated timeline and has lots of potential instead of drafting someone with less potential that would be 3+ years out from sniffing the NHL.
This is the kind of move it's worth putting your 1st rounder in play for. Not trading it for a 28yo pending UFA. |

I agree chief. Trading the #1 for someone like McGroarty would make sense. I'm just not sure Lou is ready to give up this idea the team can win a Cup. It's not just the forwards. The defense is not in great shape either. Could the Islanders get McGroarty type players for Nelson and Palms? |

As of now McGroarty is returning to UM for his junior season but that seems like a move he's pulling because he doesn't want to play for WPG's AHL team this year and that's what they have planned for him.
No reason at all he couldn't push for an NHL roster spot with the Isles if they acquired him. |

He can push for a spot on the Islanders, but again this is the Islanders.
Lou needs to go to teams that think Nelson and Palms can put them over the top and get nice returns for both. Palms at least should be traded now before he gets hurt again. |

I dont see him trading Palms because that is 1 of his Jersey boys. |

I think it's relatively safe to assume neither of them is going to be traded, regardless of what any of us think of that approach. |

Sadly, this is true chief. If the Islanders are even close to a playoff spot, they will not be traded at the deadline either. Ledecky and Malkin need those two home playoff games. Lou also needs to say he made the playoffs so he can continue to hold onto this job. |

I would hope that, if they're going to hang onto Nelson and Palmieri, that they are extremely close to a playoff spot. Because if both guys have another solid year the Isles have a real chance to move both of them for 1st round picks and start to get things heading in the right direction. |

I might have flagged this by mistake. You think Lou would be willing to move both if they are close and even in the playoffs by the deadline? It's tough because the Islanders have a real opportunity to get nice returns for both players to help for the future. |

If they are close to a playoff spot there is a 0% chance either of them get moved. Even if they are not it wouldn’t surprise me if he resigned both of them. Obviously they both would have to be resigned due to their contracts ending so not really sure wtf chiefs is talking about. 😆 |

Signing both to even shorter terms deals would be incredibly dumb. Now is the time to get max value out of them. |

I don’t disagree but if both are having great seasons coupled with us being in or even close to a playoff spot, I will repeat, there is a zero % chance either of them is traded. 😆
Even if it’s the inverse of everything I mentioned it wouldn’t surprise me if they were both resigned. Has anyone been paying attention to what Lou does? 😆 |

I'm not doubting this at all Cpt. It is a scary thought if Lou thinks this team can win a Cup with Nelson and Palms when both are not getting any younger and will not be getting better. They are nice players, but hardly difference makers to help the team go on a long playoff run. |

If the isles can land a 1LW to round out the first line, and a vet dman who can log 15-20 min a night, they’re closer to the goal.
For me, rather than trade Nelson or Palmieri I’d rather they move Lee, whose salary isn’t commensurate with his regular season production.
Side note : game 7 Stanley cup final….what a series!!!! Think I heard it’s been 31 years since a Canadian team hoisted it. Go oil!! |

From what I've seen of this team the last few years, it better be a very special 1LW and vet dman to have enough of an impact for with team. Good luck trading Lee.
I'm fine with either team winning. Would be nice seeing KO win a Cup though.

Yep! When is the last time the Islanders made two impact moves during the offseason? Bringing in MM and Leo does not count. |

Problem is it’s even more difficult now with what we have under contract. If anything does happen with any of these vets getting traded I said it before I see the Sabres being a possibility. I say that knowing it’s more then likely a pipe dream but that’s one team I could see wanting to add some vet leadership. Not sure if that means our vets. 😆
We’re in a real tough spot as far as making any real big changes. |

Islanders are in a real tough spot because they will need to expend resources to shed salary and that means the team has less assets to trade for upgrades. Bad Cap management and a bad prospect pool makes things even worse. |
