An interesting day at the draft for the Ducks. The shocked look on Beckett and his family's face was the highlight of the draft.

Love the Solberg pick. That guy is a maniac.

BUT, on the flip side, even the kid couldn’t believe he was taken at 3 because it was such a reach. This is the type of thing folks could be fired over.

I had to find a bunch of video on both these kids... I'm going to give Madden the pass until they hit the bigs. As Leo wasn't my guy either until I saw him play.

The D man seems more of likely to make the jump faster as he looks rugged already.

Never heard of this kid we just grabbed.

Pettersson... hm.. seems pretty blah... trade bait perhaps...

rather would have had the kid that got drafted right after him. Elick seems more of a sure thing and would have helped on the backend even more.

Pettersson...He’s not the most dynamic player you’ll ever see, but the sum of the parts looks like a potential bottom-six forward or fourth-line center in the NHL.

Come on you can get these kind of guys in the 7th round... WTF are we wasting an early 2nd on this kind of player for....

Terrible pick.

C'mon! Madden has been right more often than not. Maybe he'll be a great 3rd line center like his countryman, Sammy Pahlssen. The Ducks don't win the Cup without him and that3rd line.

I see what you’re saying, but I would’ve rather had a more dynamic forward with that pic draft this dude in the fifth or six round.

Love the Solberg pick. Could be a steal at 23.

Senecke was a unicorn the second half of the season - an offensively gifted 18-yr old who can forecheck and play D. He was consensus top 10 but at least one other team had him top 5. Probably a reach at number 3, but someone who will be a solid NHL player and fits the PV profile (for better or worse). Needs a couple years to bulk out physically.

Beyond the first round there aren’t any sure things. There are only 192 top 6 F in the league which means maybe 20 in each draft, so finding those guys beyond the first round is a crap shoot.

We’re going to sign a top RW & top 4D …. What a complete load of crappola…

The reality of July 1 is that the vast majority of 30-yr old NHLers want to sign where they can win now, not in a year or two or three. Ducks were reportedly in on Stamkos, but why would he come here when he can play for a playoff team in Nashville? Same for guys like Pesce and Roy and others we would have liked to see in Anaheim. I believe we were in on some of those calls, but most of those guys aren't coming here.

The more likely outcome was always that the Ducks would need to upgrade through trades.

Now is not the time to overpay for 30+ players on long term deals. We will probably try to get the top 6 winger or RHD by trade. We need to pay our young guns in 2-3 years. Yes, the cap is going up significantly over the next 3 seasons but no reason to throw money down the toilet when we aren't ready to make the jump.

As it stands now we’re a bottom 3 team … Again.

Bustallorn & Strome can’t be anywhere near the 1st or 2nd lines - they’re 4th liners at this point - Frankie can be a 3rd liner.
