Except for TT and Bertuzzi, the rest of the signings wouldn't play much or make a cup contender.
- rpeters01

That's fine really. We basically replaced R Johnson and M Entwistle with Pat Maroon/Craig Smith. Martinez is old but still serviceable, he was playing 19 minutes a night for Vegas.

If you look at it this way, basically everyone that was just brought in played in the playoffs last year. Glad KD avoided the big term overpay contracts.

Maroon, Smith, Donato, and AA have one year left on their contract and will get injured at one time or another. Foligno has a two year deal, but I’m sure he’ll end up in the shelf as well at one time or another. Would not be surprised to see Levshunov at the Rock until Martinez gets moved at TDL, same with Nazar and maybe Hayes and Dach upfront. I like KD’s approach, let the kids marinate and learn the Hawks system in the A, gives them an opportunity to come in well versed in their system and come up in a more comfortable state of mind.

Damn, Nashville is set up really well. 19 players signed for next season with $4.5M left. Not ideal, but they already have:

Forsberg
Stamkos
Marchessault
O'Reilly
Novak
Nyquist

Josi
Skjei
Schenn

Saros

Not to mention 2 1sts, 2 2nds, and 3 3rds next year.

WSH is currently almost $4M over the cap (with LTIR usage - $13M gross).

Should be able to help that out for some good rewards.

Or actually beat NHL talent to get a spot instead of being needed in the NHL because everyone they have signed sucks.

Better win now, some of those contracts aren't going to age well. Lots of age there. The thing i fear with all that age is injuries, guess they can abuse the hell out of the LTIR

If you want a fun read, head over to the Rangers board. They seriously need the pic of Stan taking a nap with Drury's face superimposed.

Gonna be interesting to hear the press conference for explanations on some of these guys.

I like the Bertuzzi and TT signings. Smith and Maroon remind me of Perry. They'll show why they are on 1-year low money contracts with the Hawks in short order. I like the goalie pickup. If Soda can prove he is an actual goalie, he'll have to unseat someone.

- Chunk

All things considered the Perry deal was working out okay until he did whatever he did. He played 14 minutes a night and was decently productive.

Soda seems labelled for Rockford right now, because he is waiver exempt. With Jaxson Stauber not retained there should be a spot for him there.

Ok who from the caps makes sense in a trade for the Hawks?

Yeah, I didn't have a huge problem with what he did on the ice, but I just don't like the "swan song" contracts for where the Hawks are right now. They have (had) plenty of guys with experience on the team. I guess it's good that they have some SC winners on the roster to talk about the good old days, but I want more guys that move the needle.

Again, not upset, but was just hoping for quality over quantity.

Magic Gus - 2 X 2 in DET!!!!

He actually wasn't bad last year, but I don't think collecting aging Blackhawks is a recipe for success.

100% make them earn it. Ice time and opportunity should be attainable but not handed out. There will be injuries and trades and chances for whomever deserves it.

I think the Hawks want to avoid what they had to do last season where they had to bring in guys midseason to fill holes (Pitlick, Sanford, Beauvillier) and have enough bodies. It's not a problem to have some talent still playing in the AHL getting ready for the pros.

I like all the moves, he's bringing pros in here. Funny people complain about our draft picks all KD drafts is speed, then they complain about how slow our FAs are.

Better than the players we let walk.

KD is walking that narrow path between improving the team as promised and getting a top 10 pick next year.

I don't see 4th centre, but I see AA, Donato, Mikhelyev, Craig Smith, Maroon fighting for NHL time while Reichel, Nazar, Slaggert in Rockford.

Tommy Hawk's work:

Tyler Bertuzzi, LW/RW- 4 years x $5.5m AAV
Teuvo Teravainen LW/RW - 3 years x $5.4m AAV
Alec Martinez, LD - 1 year x $4m AAV
Laurent Brossoit, G - 2 years x $3.3m AAV

I'm not sure, did anyone come up with a final answer about Reichel, if he can be claimed on waivers?

Decent day for KD. Glad he stayed away from Stephenson cause he really fell of last season.

Bertuzzi is an okay-ish signing if you just expect his normal~45 points and TT should help defensively and the PK with some offense.

MAronn can break his hand on someone's head instead of Foligno since Foligno can still play some.

Martinez might be good guy for Kaiser to model his game after.

Not sure what Smith has left but this is a better line-up than watching the Johnsons, Raddysh, Katchouk, Blackwells flounder all over the ice..
