WOW, thought he would go to Toronto. Way to go KFC. i don't understand Toronto's fixation with Tanev at 34 to give him a 6 year deal? he is injured just as much as Murphy.
- LAHawk

For leafs, an upgrade. More of a 3 or 4 shut down defensemen.

Bob McKenzie speculating Alec Martinez will sign here on a one year deal.

More vet presence on the back end.

- TommyHawk

Didn't he score that WCF OT winning goal that deflected off Leddy? We don't want him.

Can he/does he play the right side as a lefty? Otherwise, what's the point?
- Chunk

Are we trying to set the record for signing the most injury prone players?

Great vet leadership, amazing shot blocker, but oft injured. 1 year is not an issue

DeBrusk, Blake Lizotte, Henrique, Tarasanko. I think the Hawks have several TT types on the roster and in the pipeline, I think he is duplicative.

If it is TT, I am not upset, still an improvement over what they had.

- LAHawk

I don't know really anything about Lizotte and saw you brought him up the other day.

Am definitely on board with the other suggestions. I see where you're going with TT but ultimately yeah would still be an improvement and I'm a bit higher on him I guess. I do think he's a guy that helps drive possession and also pushes other guys down to more appropriate roles in the lineup.

Whether it's any of these guys or none I don't think KFC is done reshaping the lineup.
Like I mentioned earlier I do think him parting ways with all the 13th fwds that were on the roster last season is a good sign.

Well we have two vets on right side (Jones and Murphy). It gives LR a vet left Dman to play with a younger right dman.

Also gives two PK pairs. Jones and Vlasic and Murphy and Martinez.

Not a Bertuzzi fan. Maybe it's just the way he looks. LOL.

Hope he works out, but eventually he may be the board's new whipping boy.

- boilermaker100

I'm with you on the whipping boy part.

He was a whipping boy for the beginning/mid season in Toronto.

I thought to myself, I hope we don't sign him to term. That said, with a much expanded role, hopefully he can pot 20-30 again and provide grit on Bedard's line.

Unless Levshunov is starting the year with the Hawks, they don't have a young RHD

Veteran defenceman Alec Martinez is heading to the Chicago Blackhawks on a one-year deal, according to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie.

Does he replace Tinordi?

And yeah he did score and stop a possible (3rd) of 4Hawk Cup wins

I think he was playing mostly 3rd line with Domi last year?

If he can stand still and watch the puck carrier fly by him, then yes.

Yeah Chunk. To be fair, Domi was getting heat too early on. They both started slow.

How many players do teams think can actually play until they are 40?? I get there are LTIR rules and such, but let's just pretend that Tanev actually stays healthy for a majority of this contract. How many years are going to be useful ones??

And they'll still not get any traction in the post season because they dont' have anyone to move the puck from A-B.

I was more taking a shot at Tinordi. I don't really have a problem with Martinez. Kinda old and hopefully does what they want/need him to do.

Kinda cool:

On Deferred Compensation
Bob McKenzie: “Something to keep an eye on today is whether some NHL teams structure deals with “deferred compensation.” I’ve heard there’s been more a lot more talk of it this year.
It’s a legal (within the NHL CBA) maneuver that can be used ostensibly to help a player with tax considerations, but the too-complicated-for-me-calculation explanation is that it can also work to reduce the AAV.

It’s done a lot in baseball apparently (Ohtani!).

A player in a high tax jurisdiction, for example, could defer significant amounts of money beyond the playing term of the contract and if, after he stops playing, he moves to a lower-tax jurisdiction, there are significant tax savings on the deferred monies.

It was done many years ago when Shane Doan (now working for TOR) was re-signing with ARI when current TOR GM Brad Treliving was AGM with the Coyotes. The circumstances back then, IIRC, were mostly ARI not wanting to pay out cash in the short term (go figure).

As I understand it, there’s a present-day dollars calculation that is done on the deferred money and that is where, under the right set of circumstances, it could have an influence on the AAV.

Anyway, as I said, something to keep an eye on.

They said there would be no math!!”

Below is a list which will get old pretty fast today. As signings and trades go down, go ahead and update this. I am listing one Blackhae player transaction which would not likely happen this year, but could at some point after the upcoming season

Pesce replaces Marino
Guentzel replaces Stamkos
McDonough replaces Sergashev
Bertuzzi replaces miscast player illusion?
S Jones is not replacing anyone then after next season is the earliest time he could replace Burns[
