Martinez likely a TDL candidate to a contender that wants a veteran playoff experienced defender. Should get a 3rd or 4th for him.

As long as the Hawks invest in enough duct tape to keep him together. Anyone know if Martinez is coming off of any kind of injury?

He was on IR three times last season, couple of weeks each occurrence, due to various upper and lower bodies.

No trade but they shipped him to Cape Canaveral to launch him to the Andromeda Galaxy.

Not a bad haul at all so far.

This team will be interesting again, and most definitely very interesting at the end of the year as more prospects join the fold.

Played 55 games, averaged 19 minutes a game, so was still a regular

But missed large chucks of te last two seasons, and I don't know if that was simply some Vagas Cap strategies, or he gets dinged and need maintenence time.

The other guy, Bertuzzi...well I am have mixed feelings, after he decided the Covid-19 shot was a hoax, and decided that, even though he wouldn't be able to fufill his RedWings contract as he couldn't cross the border to do his job in Canada.

TT, Martinook, Martinez and Bertuzzi. I wasn’t expecting KFC to get that aggressive. This should provide some better hockey next season.

TT is a better player now than when he was in his earlier 'Hawks stint.
The NHL roster already looks better than last year's and allows more marination time for the draftees.
I like this signing.

Would you do a Jack Campbell (G) one year regular contract for $1M? It would give us a backup option with no risk. Throw away Mzarek worked out well for us. Some goalies thrive under a heavy work load.

To be fair, Seth Jones was also an antivaxer and seemed into some weird conspiracy poop on the socials at the beginning of the pandemic.

Not condoning it but these dudes with a 3rd grade level education are probably not going to make the best decisions with science or politics.

Yeah Bertuzzi is arguably the dumbest guy in the league, refused to get a simple vaccine despite being unable to play games in Canada without it. His tape job is also flat out insane, worth a Google. Hopefully he keeps his yap shut in the locker room, although Seth Jones’s mom is also a conspiracy freak so they might feed off each other.

He played some important minutes and scored a few big goals in their final cup.

I think he had issues going from the big ice to the little ice and adjusting to the small space in the o zone. Always a defensively and positionally sound player though.

Not for nothing, but he got infected and recovered. If he had concerns about the shot, he was well within his rights to refuse it. He knew what the consequences were for his actions and took whatever punishment came his way.

Kinda cool:

On Deferred Compensation
Bob McKenzie: “Something to keep an eye on today is whether some NHL teams structure deals with “deferred compensation.” I’ve heard there’s been more a lot more talk of it this year.
It’s a legal (within the NHL CBA) maneuver that can be used ostensibly to help a player with tax considerations, but the too-complicated-for-me-calculation explanation is that it can also work to reduce the AAV.

It’s done a lot in baseball apparently (Ohtani!).

A player in a high tax jurisdiction, for example, could defer significant amounts of money beyond the playing term of the contract and if, after he stops playing, he moves to a lower-tax jurisdiction, there are significant tax savings on the deferred monies.

It was done many years ago when Shane Doan (now working for TOR) was re-signing with ARI when current TOR GM Brad Treliving was AGM with the Coyotes. The circumstances back then, IIRC, were mostly ARI not wanting to pay out cash in the short term (go figure).

As I understand it, there’s a present-day dollars calculation that is done on the deferred money and that is where, under the right set of circumstances, it could have an influence on the AAV.

Anyway, as I said, something to keep an eye on.

They said there would be no math!!”
