One thing I also hope for this year is with the additional centre depth that acciari starts the year on wing.

Also makes a lot of sense from his POV to lineup with Malkin and Letang. Malkin is 100% retiring and Letang could decide to move on to chase Cups since he’s a smidge younger. Sid will have a pretty big decision to make since at that juncture if Letang leaves we’re likely a lottery team

Can't wait to see his explanation of how he was actually right all along

Now lock up Petts and away we go...to finishing like 5 points shy of the playoffs. There'll be a lot of good battles along the way, though. Excited for the 9th...even though the potential of a slaughtering at the hands of the Rangers is quite possible hahah

Probably the most selfless athlete in any American sport within this generation.

Its not a surprise he took less during his prime when the team was trying to win. It speaks volumes that he took less when he was in his final years and knew his team likely wouldnt make another run.

The statue we build of him outside the arena is going to rock.

It's not really that sort when he's already 37 years old, already sign for next season as it was and will be 40 when his term with Pens is up now. 3 more seasons of Sid. Excellent news.

How's your narrative now, Grinder?

- MattStrat

I thought he'd do a 3 year extension to match Letangs years, but yeah, I think he had to chew on the options for a while and soul search. He can always do one year deals if he wants to play longer.

I guess Brady did it, but I don't think there's another athlete willing to take a discount like that. Hopefully Dubas rewards his loyalty.

Awesome deal for sid and the team. But im just confused by Dubas’ plan to win?

What's he telling Sid to convince him that they’re going to be “contenders” in the next 2 years? Im just assuming Sid is sticking around to mentor the new youth thats coming for the next 5 years.

Rebuild isnt happening without quality prospects/draft picks, which requires trading quality players like Pettersson and Rust

What should be the moment that the statue depicts? Could be a cool blog idea.

Let’s be real. If you’re in that position, unless taking less has a realistic shot of yielding a championship, you’re taking the money. Sid taking a discount here is pretty weird. Cool, but weird. No doubt the organization would have happily given him market value. IDK if Dubas sees something we don’t for the long term where this cap savings will yield tangible benefits, but we really don’t have anyone that matter that we need to pay for the foreseeable future. Why not give the money to Sid? Why not demand the money if you’re Sid?

Again, cool, but weird.

Personally I think the statue should be that picture of Crosby and Malkin kissing the Cup. Obviously totally get it if people want individual statues, but just really feel like that encapsulates the era.

I wonder if his quest for 2,000 points plays a role in this. If he averages around 90 points/season for these next 3 years, a huge ask for a guy of his age, thatd take him to 1,866 points. So he'd be short by 134 points. I think he could very well put in two seasons and average about 65-67 points to get there.

It will be hard and I have to think the team would have to get him a Jake-type guy to help Sid rack up the assists, but its a shame concussions took away so much of his prime. We could arguably be talking about him hitting the 2,000 mark next season in that case.

Personally, he's had some big backhand goals. I think it'd be cool to see him shooting a backhand shot as his statue.

Cant go wrong with lifting the Cup, but I tend to like the Mario statue of his iconic moment being used.

Some of my other favorite regular season goals was when he knocked the puck out of the air in NJ and the one handed breakaway goal vs Buffalo.

Could also see his winner in the Winter Classic.

Nice deal. Keeping his options open with the low cap hit and short term. Hopefully Sullivan can get poop canned early this year and the pens have a chance to turn it around for Sid and play some real hockey.

One of the times he’s been cheap shotted and Jake Guentzel stood there and watched.

The time he got sick of Dubinsky and rag dolled him to the ice would be a good statue.
