Can't say I disagree about Brodie. Still have no idea why two years on that contract. Also, wouldn't mind seeing Phillips getting a game to two to see what he's got, but I think their treatment of him lends credence to the opinion that they don't see him as a piece going forward.

The arrow is not pointing up with this group of forwards and clearly in the bottom that's way bottom part of the league. The defense is meh but at least the arrow is pointing up with three young guys. The goalie is meh as well. The only improvement from last year is a stronger Bedard, TT, a healthy Hall and hopefully Bertuzzi. Reichel is not a difference maker nor is anyone else. Our top two lines won't be winning anything. We're waiting on young guys who won't be great at first. If things go well we're at about 2005 and TT = bringing in Havlat.

They already have too many Marner's on the team. Just look at that shift in the third with Bedard, Kurashev, TT playing ring a round the rosy for 45 seconds and they get a wrist shot from the blue line as a result. Would of gotten a 10 for Synchronized Skating.

I’m not saying I’m a Mariner guy, however Marner puts up 90-100 points every year. I love TT, but he’s not putting up those numbers. Marner will get paid, hope it’s not by the Hawks unless it’s $8M/7 years, which it will not be.

Assuming the new cap comes in around the $92M number next year the Hawks will have 15 players signed (so 8 needed for a full roster) and about $34M to play with. not to mention, some of those spots will surely be taken by a few of the kids on tiny deals.

UFA's Martinez, Hall, AA, Donato, Maroon, Smith,

Main RFA's - Kaiser, Kurashev

Every year around April 15 Marner starts getting frightened when the big nasty boys come out to play.

If the Hawks are going to spend big give me a Mikko Rantanen evry day of the week over Marner.

Right now the bottom 6 is doing their job and we need more from the top 6, but more specifically the top line. We are getting the odd goal from the top 6 here and there, but it's not enough to score around 2.5 goals per game, we need that extra goal from the top players to get over the hump in the one goal games.

It also doesn't help that out D as a whole still lacks in offensive talent. 1 goal from the D so far (a PPG from Seth Jones). I know there is always the whole "Dmen are here to defend narrative" but good teams get secondary offense from the blueline. I know there have been a few passes here and there that help generate offense, but we are still below average offensively from the blueline. It's that extra little bit of offense every 2 or 3 games from the back end that helps win games and it's the difference from being at our 2.64 goals per game and maybe closer to 3 per game.

Not saying he is playing bad but would be good to get Bedard on a roll a bit here.

Last year 68 games he was
22G 39A 61P

He is on a 68 games pace of
19G 37A and 56P

It's a pretty similar pace but the belief was adding more wingers with some skill and him maturing a year would help him push that production. Hopefully with some adjustments he can get going just that bit more to help push the offense.

His 82 game pace right now
22G 45A 67P

Two games ago he was on a PPG pace. Not saying you, but now according to some, he’s back to being kind of meh, and a guy who can’t ascend to what his press clippings have said.

I knew backreading in this place would be a mistake. Shame on me.

I was going to say that he had 7 pts through 10 games last year, so about the same as this year, then he had the 4 pt game against TB. He'll be fine. Like Fatty said, he'll go on a few torrid streaks this year. I'm more concerned about the team actually getting results at this point. They play the right way for a game then revert. They need to sustain higher level for a while.

I get what you mean and the pace can change a lot especially early. Would just be good to see him get on a roll here because I think he has just missed on some goals that were close and probably we should expect him to bury more than the around ~8% shooting he has right now. We have have slightly more depth up front but he is still such a big part of it, so want to see him get clicking and build on that rookie season.

The 2 top shelf goals Smith scored, Bedard's top shelf shots went off the shaft of the goalies stick, game of inches sometimes.

I think they need a different piece on his line than Kurashev. TT and Bedard are quite good together, but they need more punch from the other winger - not to mention someone to consistently go to the net.

Rockford plays 7pm tonight. I will listen. In first match up against them this season the Icehogs skated them out of the building, according to Mr Richochet. That was minus Arty

San Jose AHL goaltender, Askarov, was named a player of month. Eventually he will tend net for Sharks and Celebrini will return from injury

It is a big concern. You need to generate offense from the backend, even if it doesn't result in the D getting points. Hawks were so dominant in the 2010s because their D could drive possession get pucks up ice and get the forwards working in the Ozone.

We are not generating anything from the backend. Ekblad and Montour missed over 40 games combined last year. Panthers still generated 170 pts from D. That was a defensive team too. Led league in GA.

Hawks a little over 100 from the D last year.
