A commenter on the previous post claimed the Wings haven't beaten any good teams and they are pretenders while EDM is the contender. Beating EDM, LA, TB, MTL and FL were all gimmie games, just wait until they play real teams. |

Last night, after the first and as the shots were heavily in Edmonton’s favor, it felt like a “let’s put Lyon in, save Talbot, this is probably not going to be a good night”. What Lyon accomplished after those two goals was awesome. I hope he got the game (fill in trinket here). I think the criticism before this was that only 3 of the 11 wins were against top 5 teams. Now there’s 4 of 12. GMs have a month knowing next year’s cap to decide if they’ll take someone with term on a deal. Still feels like a long way to get into the post season, would be nice to see a D or a center.
Lots of fun for the guys and a mini streak in progress with 4 straight. Very cool for the fans. |

I really love Lyon. I hope we keep him around to work with Cossa. |

I would just say that there should be no expectations of Detroit beating top 5 teams consistently. They've beat two over the past few weeks, and that's a huge plus and great for confidence, but it definitely shouldn't be an expectation, especially as the playoffs approach and games get harder to win.

Absolutely, and it’s been a breath of fresh air. Really eager to see who (if anyone) comes over from Europe after their season or if anyone comes out of the NCAA and signs ELC. Kasper has grabbed a spot, would love to see other “kids” grab one |

Great outcome last night after a badly played 1st. Totally unexpected, but not totally appreciated by all "fans". I am talking to the "tank for a better draft (lottery ticket) pick" so-called "fans". I watch to see the effort that my team puts forward no matter the circumstance and position in the standings. I understand that if you are out of it a couple weeks before the TDL, you sell. But this team still has a good chance to get to the dance and needs to keep at it and not give in to the tank! A winning culture is not built on the tank! Did Washington give up despite squeaking in and being eliminated badly in the 1st round??? And now look at them! They became a destination just because they were a "playoff team"!!! (of course Ovi helped, but I digress..........)
Be a real fan and root for this team to win! Just look what it did for the Lions and Tigers! |

My pre Edmonton game post yesterday wondered who was going to show up for last nights game. I certainly did not call any specific team Pretenders, nor did I say the Red Wings have NOT beaten any good teams in their last fourteen games.
Some folks tend to misconstrue facts because they’re too ignorant to read properly. That’s OK.
Well last night, Pretenders showed up until the 9:59 mark of the second period on their ninth shot, while on goaltending life support.
Lyon was magnificent, without him there would be no shoot out. Larkin was Larkin, absolutely great. Raymond continues to impress and WOW.
It was so satisfying to see the grin on Maclellan’s face post game.
Let’s see if Contenders show up for the remainder of this western road swing.

Yzerman needs to resign Lyon now. Don’t wait until the end of the season. We could probably get him for a fair deal if we resign him now. Just think if he had tried to sign Ghost mid season we would probably still have him. How good would this team be if we still had Ghost and Walman with the new coach. Pretty much every one on here knew that Lalonde was a huge problem but for a select few. Great to see the Red Wings play now and excited for ever game. |

Agree 100% on Lyon... he's way too valuable, so sign him now. You make a good point about how much better the team would be right now with Ghost and Walman. We'd have more wins that's for sure.
Also... Chairot. Man he just looks terrible on the PK. He cost us another goal when he whiffed on the pass that went to Draisitl who then immediately scored. He would be on the bottom pairing on any other decent team. He simply is not even close to being a top pairing defenseman. It's a huge gap Yzerman needs to fix ASAP. I like Chairot's grit / sandpaper... but he needs to be on the bottom pairing. |

I’d love to get him extended, but he may want max years. IF Cossa and Augustine continue to grow and look at that timeline you have a guy who just needs to stay in college 2 more years and go UFA. Lyon needs to get the very best deal he can, don’t want to see him go, but don’t want to lose a very strong in net prospect. Catch 22. |

It’s hard to argue that. The Walman thing, no clue what actually went down there. The Ghost loss may be part of what got GMs to demand the cap upper limit before the trade deadline this year. Seider and Raymond took all summer and I believe that factored in to losing Ghost. It sucks. |

What kind of message is that to Cossa, who is ready to come up for next season, If Lyon and Talbot are blocking him? If you sign Lyon do you trade Talbot this summer to bring up Cossa? Or do you sign Lyon for 3 yrs at nearly $4.5M(because he may be worth that now) and run him and Cossa for the next 3 years? Lyon struggles after 30 games played and is getting injured a lot as of late. Whereas Talbot can handle 50 games still. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR.

Even if Cossa is ready for the NHL... he's not going to be the starter. He's not ready for that yet and I can say that because I watch him play a lot in GR. I'd extend Lyon and then bring Cossa up as a backup to see if he's even ready for that. I still think Lyon is the better choice between him and Talbot. He's 5 years yonger than Talbot (who's 37) and probably their best option. People seem to forget that Cossa has almost no NHL experience yet... he still has to get some games in and show he belongs. |
