I second this motion!
Also Ek throwing out the Leaf troll signal (like the Bat signal) in the main blog - well played.
I already saw a Habs and Rags fan take the bait. - Cush29
And just to bow up our previous conversation (which we'll have again I'm sure) - I know you do generally like Marner, but I get so frustrated about the negativity surrounding him (which is more largely more expressed on Twitter than here to be fair, but it's a general theme with too many members of Leaf Nation) when there is so much blame to go around. I often feel compelled to remind people that every player on this team has their roles to play and their inability to execute those roles well when the playoffs come around. Marner is no exception, but he is forced to wear the mantle of the Leafs' playoff failures for our frustrated fanbase and I don't think it's particularly fair. |

a lot of the Marner stuff has to do with how is contracts play out and the (bad) perception is gives.
fair not fair, I dont really care. but if you want to get every cent in a cap world, that Leaf fans are pretty sensitive about seeing how its played out of the last 5 years....expect a little hate

I am expecting conference finals as the minimum bar not to be disappointed. I think this team is constructed and coached well enough to win a couple of rounds. Whether or not the stars align remains to be seen. The whole team is going to need buy-in on Berube's system and play some greasy hockey to compliment their finesse game. |

Fair - sadly someone is ALWAYS the scapegoat / whipping boy in Toronto. James Reimer steals games 5 and 6 and gets the Leafs to game 7. The team collapses and gives up 4 straight unanswered goals (and I don't recall any of them being softies but hten again I have tried to block that entire game out of my mind) but it was all his fault they lost in game 7 and the series.
So much so even MLSE went out and got Jonny Mandela Bernier the following year! lol
Few want to look at a team loss as shared blame, they want someone to point at and blame a specific missed play, call, decision etc. I think it's just human nature because it's easier?
The Core has failed multiple times and some folks here have said this multiple times. I make no bones about being a defender of the core when they failed the first few times and thought they would learn and grow into figuring it out (like Ovie said the Caps did). Then sprinkle in coaching changes, GM changes and player changes and it's easy to kick the "well NOW they will get there" can down the road.
I no longer am there - if they can't get it done I am all aboard the change the core train - regardless of who it is they move.
I get equally frustrated with the constant negativity about Nylander with the simultaneous over the top narrative that Marner walks on water - which is defiantly expressed here, daily but with 99% of that from a single source.
Many here feel compelled to try and level set but to no avail - either you agree with the narrative or you are viewed as the flakey enemy.
YOU CAN'T LIKE OR LOVE MARNER AND NYLANDER BOTH!!!!!!! (at least to some).
Sorry for the ramble. |

Agreed.
Its 3rd round (6-7games) or blow up the team for me, enough is enough. If they dont make it out of the 2nd round, move on from marner, JT, trade matthews and morgan. Retool over the next two years.

Reimer was garbage, he played great one game (series) and was meh to ok the rest.
We got bernier, he outplayed reimer for 1 season and then they were both garbage.
Just dont react to the one over the top love for marner and constant nonsense about our future captain willie....ya i know easier said then done...im guilty of responding as well. But the sticktoitness is amusing i suppose |

It depends on when you're talking about, really.
Bernier was good in 13-14 but he wasn't that much better than Riemer in 10-11 or 12-13. Riemer in 11-12 was hot garbage.
One thing to note is look how much better Anthony Stolarz is, at present, than any goalie we've had in the past 18 years. Also look at how many performances have been basically league average goalies. I like to think when you see 0.25/60, you're seeing a goalie who was stealing games for us more than he was giving them away. |

Meh, those dont.
I just recall hating having bernier and reimer, and when it counted reimer wasnt that good. Bernier was good one year or so....then was a mess as well. |

You picked Reimer as the scapegoat! lol
Many did / still do but the collapse in game 7 has so many WTF moments including why didn't the coach call a time out? Dion Phenuf skating around as the captain bringing anything but a calm and collected vibe to the guys he was supposed to be leading, Jake Gardner just having brain cramp after brain cramp.......man that sucked so hard.
I was / am still a Reimer fan and Bernier went from good to WTF in a hurry!

I didn't blame Reimer. As the panic set in across the team, he fell victim to it as well, so while he had been so calm and poised he was suddenly all over the place and exposing massive holes. I'm not really sure he could have played it much better given that the defense in front of him were exploding so badly you could actually _hear_ it.
The 2013 Leafs were an abysmal team fronted by exploiting the 2-line pass and aided by some timely goaltending and otherworldly luck. That game 7 may very well have been the closest I've ever been to believing in a God and the Hockey God was not happy.
Ultimately when looking at the two I did prefer Bernier. He was more poised, had better form, was more upright and had a really smooth transition from butterfly to standing. All of that prettiness didn't really amount to much difference in a head-to-head comparison with Reimer. |

Jay McClement could not get off the ice, they had no players left to play defence by the end. It is pain even to recall this disaster on so many levels. Since Dion hit on Lucic everything went down in a hurry. |
