Sportsnet is your nhl broadcaster for the next decade
7.7 billion dollar deal - Fakepartofme The Sportsnet broadcasts are old and have lost their appeal. The NHL in Canada needed someone else to carry the ball moving forward. The TSN telecasts are much better and more entertaining. I don't think that I'll live long enough to see another broadcaster actually do something innovative, here in Canada. I'd rather punt Jennifer the Giraffe for Sheryl Pounder any day. What a crappy choice for Canadian viewers.

Nice, and those are USD's. ~ 300M USD per year for the last 12 years is now ~700M per year for the next 12 years. |

No. But on the bright side, grown men who play Pokémon never have the opportunity to catch an STD |

Let’s face it.
Leaf fans wouldn’t be happy unless it was something like Clark, Gilmour, and Sundin sitting with Tie as the host. |

What I say to myself to love myself
There’s reasons to be fussy, and that’s fair, but for me, so long as there’s a place to watch the game I’m happy, damn, it’s still better than catching it via antenna in a rural house on a CBC channel 40 in the midst of a stormy Saturday night back in the 80s that’s for sure. |

I’m older and back in the day the games were joined in progress in the second period, even the playoff games. |

Just because it has to be said - I couldn't give a rat's ass about Don Cherry getting himself fired. It wasn't Ron MacLean's job to protect another grown ass adult from being a moron. That said I think the reality is that Ron is too boring; this type of midline non-offensive broadcasting feels very outdated. I don't want someone who's going to come out and yell at the camera, but a bit of bristle to them would be good. Again a bit of a controlled loose cannon like Bissonnette is a lot of fun. But it's funny because it's a really hard line to walk - like O'Neill could sort of do that, but he's a bit of a twit. I like Justin Bourne, but he's probably a bit too much of an egghead for most people. Finding that specific character that people generally find appealing isn't an easy thing to do!
I don't care if they bring a woman on or not - I'm fine if they do but at least consider the way the men's game is played vs the woman's game - it isn't the same. So Pounder is likely the best of the women I've seen. Campbell was good for this as well. Botterill has a bit too much bias in her analysis.
But if Sportsnet were doing all the games, I'd be in favour of a rotating panel that incorporated the best of TSN and Sportsnet into it - there's an appealing broadcast and panel there . . . |

Yeah, I never caught that, I’m a mid eighties beginner since I was born in 77’.
I’m still no habs fan but I’ll always love Roy due to this I won’t lie, it’s because of dad, who I’m named after, he is a habs fan, and in 86’ he had me watching the games with him at a more mature level. He taught me patience when it came to watching games.
And he’s still good old dad lol. He’s well past retirement age, says it would be too boring so he still drives a truck, and openly admits loving how we no longer need patience lol |

I was kidding around and here’s why.
I really could care less about what is on tv during the games other than the game.
It’s when I get up and do things.
If people care they are way too tied to the media of hockey.
Just my opinion. |

I don't mind the personalities or the analysis - often I'll get up and go do things during the intermission - but if there are good topics or good discussion or people I respect the opinion of, I'll watch it.

I remember the days of Ward Cornell, Billy Hewitt, Howie Meeker and Di-ck Beadoes. These guys knew hockey. Of course, the broadcasts were via antenna and early cable systems. There was only Saturday night games in the regular season on CBC. CFTO in Toronto did the Wednesday Night games. With the advent of cable, the rights went from CFTO, midweek, to CHCH, then Global, before they ended up on cable. Yes, we got most of the games, but we had to pay for a cable subscription and often an upgraded Sports package. Now we have multiple rights holders, and the games are now fragmented. I think Prime is an abomination. It also angered me when the Centre Ice Package was $229.00 + tax a year, in Canada, while Directv had it for $99.00 USD per year. Now ESPN+ has the Centre Ice packages, but the regional SportsNet's have a splintered package with AppleTV and other providers like ABC, TNT, TBS and Tru. You just can't one stop shop any more. |

I’m willing to bet it’s because they seem fresh and nothing more.
Give them the same amount of broadcasts and see if you feel the same. They’re new and they’re an escape from the normal thing. Win win. |
