Make no mistake, on paper the Oilers still are a very deep team with good players at almost every position. But Game 1 or Game 2 could be the first time all season we see the full roster (minus Ekholm) expecting everything to suddenly click into place is a big ask.

Could be confusing in the new barn as they have gender neutral bathrooms depending on the event

The oilers are most certainly not a deep team.

They treaded water very admirably for an extended stretch, while missing 1-4 top forwards, the top D man, and starting tender. Not sure how that can't be considered decent depth.

That said, I can't see how they gel in time to not get bounced by the Kings, even if they are mostly healthy (which I don't think they are).

All the injuries they had to endure to their top guys and finishing 10th overall in the league says otherwise dude.

Vegas odds see it differently.

Vegas books don't choose teams. Books set odds with the objective of balanicng money on each side of an opportunity.

Handicappers, on the other hand, calculate probabilities to determine outcomes. Early in the preseason, many seemed to favor the Oil, but injuries, walking wounded, summer moves, deadline acquisitions, goaltending, and structural decline, have negatively impacted playoff probabilities. Many American/Canadian handicappers (ie. Moneypuck) have shifted the Oilers outside of the-10.

From an unbiased perspective, its easy to envision the Oil advancing to round 2. However, winning round 2 seems doubtful, particularly with Skinner in net and Ekholm unlikely to return.

Oilers will need a massive adjustment to LA's game this time around.

Hope they are up to it it's gonna be tough.

Interesting stats from Jason Gregor on Oilersnation:

I keep hearing how the Oilers’ scoring depth is worse, but the numbers don’t match that claim.

Foegele, Ryan McLeod and Dylan Holloway combined for 38 goals last season. Skinner, Arvidsson and Podkolzin scored 39 this year.

Connor Brown and Mattias Janmark combined for only eight goals last season. They had 15 this season, with Brown scoring 13 of them.

The drop in goals came from the top four goal scorers. Last year Hyman (54), Draisaitl (41), McDavid (32) and Kane (24) combined for 151 goals.

This season the top four were Draisaitl (52), Hyman (27), McDavid (26) and Nugent-Hopkins (20) for a total of 125.

Edmonton’s forwards scored 244 goals last year and 217 this season. The reduction came from Hyman, who had a career year last season, which, we outlined at the start of this season, wasn’t repeatable. However, it is important to note that scoring across the NHL was down this season from last.

This shows the Oilers don't have a downgrade in players this season from last. The top guys just aren't performing as well as last year.
