Sharks have 42M in cap space this upcoming season.
I could see them going all in to make this happen, & making this player the highest player in the league.

Correct. Damn auto correct.
I’ll admit if I make a spelling mistake, not attack the person pointing it out.

JT 6 year deal low AAV
Kane 1.5M plus 2M in performance bonuses
Toews 1M plus 1M in performance bonuses
This scenario would leave the Leafs with a poop load of cap space |

Marner has no class. The money he can make in endorsements with the Leaf jersey far outweigh any money he can get anywhere, and yet he still trys to fleece them for every last dollar. Add to that no playoff heart and his fate is sealed. The final straw to screw leaf fans will be when he takes less to play elsewhere. He’s not good enough for the Jersey, and can’t wait to see him go. |

Sure Felicia/Jan
Btw, the Leafs haven’t won a cup in like 58 years, Crusty the Clown is good enough to wear the jersey.
There is nothing prestigious about wearing the Maple Leaf anymore. Because idiot fans love to run every good player out of town so they never win. |

That young sharks team has some great players
MArner could fit in well there...but I believe Cali has a high tax rate as well so it could be a higher cap hit for them.
Plus they will have to pay Celi and smith in 2 years.
I'd do a sign and trade of marner for Toffoli...not sure they would |

6 years!!!
No thanks.
4 max imo.
Are those 1 year deals? Those performance bonuses if they exceed this years cap will impact next years cap. |

I wouldnt say he has no class. Was probably giving ill advice a few years and hasnt adjusted well to the media here at times.
He is doing what Matthews and Willie did prior to him. They want to get paid. |

I can't think of the last pro athlete who played for a Toronto team who had no class if there was one even?
Some have done some classless things for sure (looking at you Robbie Alomar and Spitgate).
I agree perhaps the agent or someone else has given him poor advice and he ran with it as far as how he has on occasion dealt with the media. That being said he also doubled down on the tense relationship with the media / fans a few times (perhaps not even intentionally) which didn't help him.
Can someone be charitable and a good person while also being greedy?
Of course they can - look at how much rich people donate to charity, some of it is pure philanthropy, there is also a tax element to it. Nobody except the person being charitable knows how much of which of those reasons is why they do it.
You are 100% bang on he is following the lead of the other 2, that's just more reason why 1 of those 3 players and the huge cap hits they carry just has to go.
Marner is just the easiest to let go now since he's the UFA and will likely be asking for more than the Leafs can/should pay him if they want to build a balanced roster a la Florida, Edmonton or even going backwards Tampa, Boston..... |

Its true, because he's an FA, he's the easiest to make change with....and change is needed.
I also dont think Matthews has the DNA needed to move this team forward either. But I dont see him getting moved.
Also, I dont think paying Bennett $10m per is the right move either.
The answer is out there...just not sure its out there this off season. (and no I dont expect McD to hit FA at all) |
