I'm coming out of long time lurker mode (been here for... maybe 18 years?) to say thank you for your work. As a dude who used to do his fair share of hockey writing way back when (for Lyle at Spector's Hockey), I just wanted to say how much I looked forward to and enjoyed reading your Oilers articles. My youngest is graduating high school this week so I definitely know how much time kiddos take in your life but it's the best time. I'm still hurting pretty fierce about two Cup losses in a row like every other Oilers fan (and don't really appreciate Ek's sabre rattling about McDavid and LA) but I genuinely enjoyed your work throughout this season and the last few as this team has grown and developed and I wish all the best to you and your family. And yes, I agree: some retained Nurse cap + different player is better than Nurse. In my dream world, they convince him to waive for Nashville for Josi but that's up to (heaving sigh) Bowman (and I definitely agree with you where HE'S concerned. Maybe the man is a bad luck charm?). Anyway, thanks for years of quality, entertaining writing! Dal

Sorry no team takes the Nurse contract unless its 90% salary retained and thats not realistic (and perhaps allowed). I don't know how the Oil can pay all those who need to get paid considering McDavid will get (and deserve) cap max. What do you have left? I assume goaltending becomes job #1 after McDavid?
If the Panthers win taught anything its that you need 4 lines to produce, not one or occasionally two. Tough spot...

I wish you and your family health and happiness as you begin the new chapter in your lives, I’m on the other side of age and I believe in family is everything.

I have never been an Oilers fan, ever, hated Gretzky and Messier with a passion, I could acknowledge they were the most talented during their era just like I can acknowledge McDavid and Draisaitl are in this era. I believe the Oilers have a very competitive team and if they keep the same core they will continue to chase the cup, but fall short.

Take care Sean and maybe I’ll be reading your stuff elsewhere in the future.

Cheers.

I’m willing to bet this team downgrades by all those “missing” positions.

Good luck replacing all that in one offseason with better talent.

I’ll root for McDavid to win but I don’t feel bad for this franchise one single bit.

The oilers should be calling NYI. About Sorokin. They have first overall this year and should be trying to get McKenna next year. Having Sorokin only hurts their chances

Sean,

As a non-Oilers fan, thank you for all your hard work and dedication to this site. I have read many of your blogs and have enjoyed them.

I wish you all the best with parenthood and with future endeavors.

Take care!
