Do you or anyone think they would attach a 1st to move Jarry. - furio16
No, I wouldn't at this point in time. At least not yet. With expiring contracts and the cap going up, coupled with a team that shouldn't be competing for anything in the next year or 2, I don't see why they'd spend a first just to get rid of the contract. Unless they make major moves in the offseason to truly have one last go of things next year which I find hard to see happening.

Absolutely not, That'd be terrible asset management. Pens are in a rebuild, moving a 1st would be a terrible move.

No. I think they'll dump Ned and run Jarry back as our starter next year. Or, they'll trade and retain salary. No reason to give up a premium asset when they don't intend to win. Jarry has the talent to be an NHL starter. His problem has always been consistency and the occasional brain fart. In his defense, playing behind this team would crush any tenders confidence. |

No. Best you'd see is a third and retention. They're in the area where they take on other team's salary problems for draft picks, not the other way around. |

I think we’ll keep rolling with Jarry and let the two guys in WBS fight for the backup job and then have whoever’s better try to unseat Jarry. Nothing really else to do. |

Agreed.
I think there's a solid argument for trading him and a 2nd, 3rd or combo, especially given we have 3 2nd's next draft.
But even then I don't see a scenario where we don't pick up SOME of his salary. Even $1 million, which then makes parting with picks harder. |

The cost to offer sheet rfa’s needs to be adjusted since salaries are going through the roof. Going after someone like villardi, Rossi, peterka just might not be worth it. |

Not a chance, i wouldnt even do it for a 2nd. The most logical path, without knowing the buyout schedule timing, would be to buy him out. The cap is going up, we are unlikely to spend to the cap, no reason for us to spend assets to get rid of him. |

I absolutely would. All these draft picks don’t mean poop for Sid. If Jarry and a first can make it more difficult for other teams to own the center if the ice in the Pens zone ship them out. Big physical D man with a predisposition toward violent behavior. |

I still hope one day the pens get zadarov for LD. Xekaj as 3LD would also be amazing but he will be in mtl forever. |

I get that the D need to get the puck up the ice, but there is a balance. The Pens have just completely leaned one way. Even like a smart D man like Mark Eaton would be a welcome addition to this group. But yeah I don’t think Montreal is getting rid of WiFi anytime soon. He’s like a golden unicorn in a sea of sheep with the current state of hockey. |

Having a few Dmen that actually defend would be nice.
Jarry's contract seems to be structured in a way that a buyout makes no sense. They could keep him and use him in a tandem next year, or trade him for a more useful bad contact. |

Being forced to play in the jungle on a 5 mill ticket and realizing that you’re an untradable professional athlete could have also been exactly what he needed to right the ship. Also let’s not understate just how awful this team is at defending. It’s all not nothing. |

With dmen like Letang and ek they need defensive dmen to cover all their flaws for sure. They also need players that can handle 82 games plus (hopefully) playoffs and make it hard on the opponents players. Hopefully they start drafting and developing players with some tenacity above all else. But some size and nastiness would help. |

Both Rakell and EK have come out saying they want to stay here amidst trade rumors. Jarry was tracking to be done in this league and is trying to revive his career. It’s a given that Sid, Geno, and Letang don’t want to end their careers here like this. I think a lot of guys on this team right now have the mindset that “if we want to be here next year and be competitive we need to prove we’re worth it.”
Make no mistake this team is bad. We have no depth at forward and the blue line doesn’t have a great mix of complimentary skill sets. But I do think the mental reset has happened and they’re trying to show Dubas that this offseason isn’t too early to start turning things around. Next year could end up being watchable if not flat out enjoyable |

If they can make it interesting, they could receive a mid-season youth movement that has a chance to be similar to if not better than 2016. Saw that there was an interview with Dubas this week on TSN where he said he'd like to call up a group in a wave instead of individually if possible. He did that in Toronto and he felt it gave them a jolt.
Pickering, McGroarty, and Koivunen were the names at the top. Murashov, Blomqvist, St. Ivany, Broz, and Hayes were also mentioned. Note who wasn't. |

Yeah doesn’t seem like Ponomarev has a future here.
It would be huge if Pickering could be ready to go by next year. He could be the heir to the Martin/Dumoulin/Petterssen role here which we need to replace desperately. Him and Brunicke have the exact type of complementary skill and build for Letang and EK so the sooner they reach the show the better for us. Brunicke even carries some snarl with him |
