They had to fill the gap somehow and didn't want to force Mikkola into the role yet.

Would you rather it be a 2nd and 3rd for Dillon or 2 2nds for Alec Martinez?

personally would of rather had Dillon but Scandella was cheaper contract wise.

A couple of the many things that have always impressed me about Bouwmeester has been his intelligence with the puck and his positional awareness. It’ll be interesting to see how Scandella operates in those two areas.

He knows the Central, what with his time in Minnesota.

I’m hoping that the Blues figure stuff out. The guy they picked up from Carolina doesn’t inspire much hope positionally defensively.

If Bouwmeester is done and Petro walks at the end of the season, our defense looks pretty shaky...

I read somewhere that that Montreal picked up Scandella for a fourth rounder from Buffalo.

I suppose teams pay a premium to address injury situations...

I think the Blues over relied on JayBo. Great guy, but his underlying stats were shown to be propped up by Parayko. Part of the slide began without Parayko.

Hugely disappointed when previously Mikkola showed he belonged. This over reliance on veterans is head scratching, just as Armstrong telling Kyrou he's not going anywhere. Kyrou's good and I think he will be a great player but that's just shortsighted. The Blues have two good young LD who I think are noth more NHL ready than Kyrou in Mikkola and Walman. Walman looked great in his first game. Only a few mistakes but he battled. His upside was so much higher than all but Dunn on the left side. But hey, trade a forward for a top two RD and sign him to an extension when those spots are already filled makes a ton of sense; In case, you know, you can't afford your captain. Oh and that's before Reinke gets concussed bc that kid was looking like an NHLer--seems like a way to manage the cap and identify weaknesses--in the forward ranks, even with Tarasenko.

Not really. JayBo played his best if the SCF. His underlying stats were so low and Parayko's play so impressive he literally pulled that pairing up.

Plus when Petro was injured last season, Parayko stepped his game up and showed Petro is not necessary. Petro, however makes a lot of small plays to gain possession of the puck, create some time and space and allow for defensive break outs. He's a great player.

If you want to compete before the cap drags you need those longer term prospects to get in the pipeline. That next core needs to be created. Those future Oshie picks. In that sense, Kyrou(and I hate doing this) really reminds me of M.St.Louis. his career trajectory so far resembles it as well.

It's a gross overpayment and reactionary. Hopefully it pans out for a guy who was having trouble cracking Buffalo's lineup🤦‍♂️

Does it surprise you though? The GM that went out and got Del Zotto last year?

Also, just from a time on ice perspective, they needed to find a solution to balance out his 21 minutes per game. Clearly, the coaching staff isn’t ready to give those minutes to Dunn...

Once or twice faced a breakaway but other than that, no. Great win tonight against Dallas. Stars looked outmatched most of the game. Allen is always good for an Allen goal. Shame the shutout streak had to end on an iffy goal.
