Jay: The Next Domino to Fall? Bottom Six Forward Open to Being Traded |

The Toronto Maple Leafs are still grappling with a significant gap in their top-six forward group. Their current roster is overloaded with bottom-six players, and several prospects are on the cusp of breaking into the NHL. Complicating matters, reports now suggest a veteran forward is open to a trade.
General Manager Brad Treliving has been diligent in reshaping the Leafs' forwards to fit his vision. However, one key holdover from the Kyle Dubas era, Calle Jarnkrok, remains. Jarnkrok's history with Treliving is notable; he previously played for him in Calgary, where his performance was largely considered a disappointment. While Jarnkrok has been an impactful regular-season contributor in Toronto, he has been virtually invisible in the playoffs.
According to the "Sekeres and Price Show," the Maple Leafs' management has approached Jarnkrok about the possibility of moving on. The report clarifies that while Jarnkrok has not formally requested a trade, he is receptive to the idea. He holds a 10-team no-trade list, which the Leafs have reportedly asked him to submit.
Jarnkrok's playoff performance offers little encouragement. He found fleeting success on a line with depth players but otherwise struggled to find his fit. He doesn't bring a physical dimension and often logs minutes without making a tangible impact. For opponents, facing Jarnkrok presents little challenge and is often seen as an opportunity to dominate their shifts.
From the Leafs' perspective, trading Jarnkrok has minimal downside. With his signing bonus already paid, moving his contract becomes more feasible. It wouldn't be surprising to see Toronto acquire a mid-round draft pick or a B-level prospect in return.
There is little doubt that as the Maple Leafs finalize their opening night roster, players with Jarnkrok's profile are likely to be replaced. The focus has clearly shifted towards acquiring true impact players and physical forwards who can execute the demanding, 'Berube-style' of hockey that the new coaching staff will implement.
